 I'VE JUST GOT INTO THIS AND HAVE A TIPPMANN98 CUSTOM.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW ONE GOES ABOUT CHECKING THE VELOCITY

You need a chronograph. Go down to your local field, load up your
marker, put your mask on, and step into the target range and shoot a few
over the chrono. Adjust, rinse, repeat.

A chrono is pretty much the only way. Most shops will have one you can use for a small fee, or buy your own for around and under $100.
