   So I bought a used A-5 and it has some places on it that I want to repaint. Only problem is, is I don't know what kind of paint that the Tippmann company used to paint them. I know I could go out and buy some other paint but I want the paint to stay on for a long time.

   So my question is, What kind of paint do you use to paint a Tippmann and where can I get some?

Well, tippmann uses a proscess called annodizing(sp?) on their markers. This is basically using electricity to attack the paint to metal. The BEST way to repaint the marker, would be to send it in to a company to either be re-annodized, or poweder coated. But, you can paint it yourself. Im not certain on what kind of paint to use. I would imagine any kind of tough spray paint would work. Throw like 4 or 5 coats on, then get some clear top coat, and throw about the same number of coats on. Allowing it to dry inbetween coats for paint and topcoat.

Actually, for the A5 and 98... they don't use anodizing.

The cast aluminum used for the receivers of these guns doesn't allow for it. They are painted. Unless they've changed the material used, as of very recently.

If you want to repaint the gun... I would first remove any existing paint that may be peeling or flaking. If you have access to a sandblaster, I would give it a light shot... if not, don't worry about it.
Give it a coat of primer, and use automotive spray paint. Can be found at Pep Boys, AdvanceAuto, AutoZone, etc.

if all else fails grab the spraypaint. (but i really don't recommend it)

Thats what I use, and so does a few other forumers.

You can get a real nice look out of it. If your looking for the original, get a flat black (2 coats). But dont put any clear coat on it. Sure clear coat will protect it, but it will also make it shine.

Remember to plug all the holes, and have fun with it.

well i've never painted my gun...so...but i thought spray paint would be all sticky and tacky feeling. that's why i didn't recommend it.

make sure your coats arnt to thick or they will chip.

paint in lines so paint the top of the reciver and finish that line with one pass and go down to half the first line and repeat all the way down.

strip all the paint off and then use a white vinegar/water solution to remove oils from the reciever halves (like you do for painting galvanized steel). The ratio should be 1:10 vinegar to water.

Let the halves dry.

Go to an auto parts store and get paint used for engine blocks. It's a high-temp paint (you don't need it for temperature) so it's plenty durable.

Another option is to prep it and take it to a bodyshop and get it powder-coated which is probably what Holysmartone is reffering to -  they have tons of colors available and its very durable.
