I've been shopping around for a stock for my X7 and don't know which to get. Opsgear and other sites have strictly wire frame stocks for fairly cheap. are the collapsable/folding ones worth the extra $$$?

Try Spec Ops, they carry a bunch of different ones. Also Ebay usually has a ton for sale. I had a JCS wire frame stock on my 98, and honestly couldnt stand it. I find a lot of stocks are useless as they don't put the sites high enough unless you use a riser of some sort. You may be better off just using the tank as a stock. It keeps the weight down. If you do decide on a stock, look into getting a remote to pull the weight off the marker. Having a tank and stock on tends to be cumbersome. With that said, I'm no longer a big fan of remotes either. Makes it difficult to switch from left to right when going around bunkers.

Company called killyjoy paintball makes a new stock, the R.O.C., it actually looks impressive/useful, which is something when I think stocks are silly on the majority of markers out there. Most other stocks are going to be useless, just watch the hundreds of youtube vids where guys with stocks have to shoot with the stock over their shoulder or in other hindering positions.

My overall opinion of using stocks/remote lines is that it just hinders your game. If you want it, fine, a lot of people really like using stocks.

If your not already on Tdot you should check it out, tdotballers.com, they have a scenario section that could be useful to you, most forumers there are in the toronto area, although theres guys all over Canada, as well as a bunch of guys from ottowa.
