I have a 98 tippman custom with a a-5 cyclone feed. I have had this gun for two years and have cleaned it regularly however I am now having  a velocity issue. I can turn the velocity screw up and down and get the gun chrono'ed but the fps is always at 150 or lower? I run off of compressed air and tried putting co2 on it and it has the same results it will not go any higher now. When I first had the gun the fps was 412.....but will not go up now. Any thoughts?

yep, your velocity adjuster needs rebuilding, or have you done this? you say you have cleaned your marker regularly but, have you serviced any of the internals?

The velocity adjuster does not need rebuilding.  About the only thing that can go wrong with the stock Tippmann velocity adjustment system on a 98 series marker is for the screw to fall out.  There is no way to "rebuild" this system.

Things to consider:

  • Did you recently switch from CO2? If so, check the output pressure of your compressed air tank.
  • If you have disassembled the marker recently, check to make sure the end cap is fully seated in place.

 - You might need a new spring, though if it the velocity drop-off happened overnight I doubt that is the case.
- Check that the ball detent isn't installed backwards....it happens...
 - Inspect and lube the front/rear bolt o-rings.
 - 150 fps is crazy low for this marker, so I suspect something significant is happening here.
  - My guess is something is either installed incorrectly, and/or you have some kind of friction issue.

Please let us know what the issue is when you get it fixed, so others with your problem can have this thread be helpful to them too. Thanks.
