I just got a brand new Alpha Black and took it out to the field for the first time today. Field was about 65 degrees
I was running CO2 and after spinning the velocity screw way in and out was never able to get the velocity over 190. We switched over to Air and got no imporvement in the speeds.
Initially I started with the shipped remote line, but directly connected the 20oz tanks and got the same poor results in the range of 140 to 190.
Someone suggested that if the gun had been shipped cocked the spring could be shot? but what else might be wrong here?
What is Tippmans warrenty on this?
Thank you.

It could be a spring issue. As you described the problem, it would be a warranty issue. You might try contacting the place you purchased it from as well as Tippmann. See if you can find a solution that doesn't cost any money to ship your gun somewhere. If it is the spring, then it is only a $2 part.

Well my out-of-state father bought it on Amazon for my 10 year old son's birthday....neither of them has the packaging or receipt...so now its my problem to fix.
I will go by local paintball store and see if they have/can order the $2 spring. If that don't fix it any other suggestions? Thanks

It is probably the spring. In testing the gun, you have done the correct things so far; Eliminate other possibilities by using different bottles and removing the remote. If it comes to it, Tippmann does a great job of backing up their guns. The only problem is that you would need to send it to them. A $2 spring is easier. If it doesn't solve the problem, I will get a list of other things to check, but they are pretty rare issues.

Yeah that sounds like a spring issue.
The 98 is actually a really easy gun to take apart. Id recommend doing it yourself. |

If you call Tippmann customer serv ice, they may be able to walk you through a couple of other suggestions. Also, if it is a new marker, they will most likely just send you the parts to fix it for free.
