I wouldn't call myself a noob, I've been playing for 3 or 4 years, and have had lots of experience with lower grade guns, nothing expensive. I've been playing with a generic brand gun, and it was working pretty good until this last year. So I've decided I am going to buy a Tippmann 98 Custom. Well, then the ACT tech came out, and I had some questions about it. First, does it tend to fowl up? I mean, getting two bolts to work in just the right way like that is kind of tricky, so do things go wrong with the action sometimes? And Second, does it make it a lot harder to disassemble? I've heard 98s were tricky enough as it was, but messing with two bolts and half a dozen springs might end up being a nightmare. And finally, would you personally prefere the ACT, or would you just go with the original action? Thanks for any help, I just don't want to put out over $100 and have a bunch of tech problems.

I havent heard of it ever causing a big problem and disassembly isnt that much more difficult. There are tons of pre-ACT 98s out there that dont have a problem with chopping, including the one I used to own. It's up to you really whether you want to spend the extra money to get something that may not even be necessary.
Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

Well, it's actually kind of hard to find a site that still sells 98 Customs without a big package. But then, I haven't really looked that much. And does it cost that much more? I thought they were basically the same price.

I just bought a custom pro and have had no issues with it. It's easy to take apart and reassemble. Really there isn't that many pieces to it. I haven't had any problems with my bolt either. Remember, it's a tippmann. They have never produced a stock gun out of the box  that has issues or is finnecky. Buy a gun with the ACT and don't worry about it.

i feel that the ACT stuff is unessesary, my gun hasn't chopped a ball since i played in the winter with seconds (paintballs that have been preshot and then resold)  I would also think that it would make it harder to clean and i have also heard that there have been some problems I don't know what kind.  I would stick with the original 98 custom you can get some amazing deals on ebay.

The A.C.T has a tougher finish, it can except electronic triggers, is just as easy to work on, and it can purchased for $139.00 you can't go wrong! As for any problems with it, the only problem is the sear spring update. If a gun falls in range (serial number) Tippmann will send you all the parts to fix or prevent the problem. Go to the home page and look in the news section about the release of the A.C.T, and the service update you will find all the ansewers you are looking for. What did you expect me say look at my name!
