They should make tanks with built in O-Rings. Then you wouldn't have the hastle or replacing then every time they fall off, get streched, or many other reasons. Just a thought.

either way, for it to work, it has to be a softer substance so that it
can fill in the gaps and no air will leak, this means that they will
eventually wear down, what's the big deal anyways? you can get like 10
for two dollars

I know it's cheap and easy to replace them, but I thought it would be better to not have to go to your shop or whatever to buy more when you run out. It was just an idea that dawned apon me when I was sitting here typing on msn.

Entirely infeasible. Orings break down, no questions asked. They are the cheapest solution. The only other way to have that would not need [much] attention would be to have such tight tolerances and a very long threaded end on the tank to ASA area, which would create an air seal by raising the resistance past that threaded, tight toleranced area so high that air wouldn't leak. But then any slight variation in temperature would make your aluminum ASA expand more than the steel tank thread, thus blowing your seal right to hell. The seal area on a non-oringed tank would probably have to be 1000 or even 10000 times longer than any oring.
Another option would be to make the threading on the tank so tight that it wouldn't leak, much like how the threads on the airline out of the ASA stay sealed, but then you would need a special tool to get the tank on tight enough, and off again any time you wanted to remove it. Case in point, orings are the best answer to a simple question. They can only be so durable while still allowing for proper air seals. |

You can put teflon tape on your threads if the o-ring is bad. But its much more of a hassle to use teflon tape. Kind of a last resort thing I guess. |

it's not impractical or infeasable. i agree. they should have them, but add like a gell that will easily and seal the gap between the groves, it would probably be better than o rings.

Or not better at all. Read up on orings, then propose a more cost effective and more reliable yet still properly performing system and you will be a millionaire.

best solution. Use an on-off and never remove your tank.
