This is not so much a review of the Tacamo conversion kit for the Phenom and the RAP4 box mag, as more a request for help.

Okay so I took the plunge and purchased the Tacamo conversion kit to my Phenom and the Rap4Gen4 mag-box. Using a 10" Lapco .687 barrel. Purchased the Lok-Bolt as well. Retractable shoulder stock. Front grip with built in bi-pod. Tippmann carry handle, Tippmann assault front shroud with rail covers, and a red-dot sight. I also have an APEX2 barrel tip that I will be putting on once I am sure everything is working.

First of all, once the conversion kit was installed I was surprised with the weight and size of the kit with the box mag. Between my vest that holds my remote tank, pods, reserve mags in case of mag box failure and the marker, I could be hitting the field with 50 extra pounds. (need to weigh it all just in case).

Had to cut the end of the bottom rail of the Tippmann Assault shroud to make it fit, and I doubt my G36 or UMP shroud will fit without a lot of dremel work.

At first try, using the magazine that came with the kit, it worked fine, but when I put the Phenom on electro-mode, the trigger was stiff. Thinking that it may have been the battery of the Phenom I swapped in a new 9V and had the same problem. May need to disassemble and look for another answer. On mechanical mode the trigger worked fine and I did not have this with the original clam shell. Looking through Youtube I found a video that had a similar problem. Right now not a major issue and will look into further later on.

Now one thing to note. The reason that I have gone this route is to be able to bring more firepower to the field. Typically I hit the field with either 4 to 6 pods to begin with but did not like the idea that as I am refilling my hopper I lose sight of my target and am at a tactical disadvantage.

When I attached the mag box I filled up the cannister and started test fire on mechanical mode. Seemed to work fine however when I put the Phenom on electro mode, that box started making a high pitch whirring sound and stopped feeding. Had to empty the cartridge, unscrew the feeder tube to clear it, refill and tried again. Same thing happened after just a few rounds in electro mode. Now I noticed that this happened also in mechanical mode if I pulled the trigger in rapid succession.

I tried with 3 different paints. All 3 were GI SPortz however one was an older batch, plus a batch of premium pait that was only a few months old.

I am thinking it could be an issue with the Lok Bolt.

After the frustration with the RAP4 box mag, I went back to the regular magazine that came with the converson kit. I prepped the spring, loaded the paint, did 3 test fires to chrono, then tried to go auto on electro mode. The Lok Bolt stopped the bolt from going all the way as it was not reading a paitball fully in the chamber. This meant taking the magazine out and losing 2 or 3 paintballs, loading the magazine in to continue firing.

No directions came with the kit but I have reviewed several online videos regarding installation and usage and followed everything exactly. Sent an email to RAP4 but waiting for a response.

The box mag had both the AL and SP switches were set to + right out of the box. AFter the 3 attempts, I switched both to the middle spot, but with the same effect.

Batteries are new, out of the box. Tested them under load and they were good.

I live in Orlando, Fl but in the last three days the weather has been cool in the mid to upper 70's with average humidity.

I used three different batches of paint, although they were from the same manufacturer. I inspected random paintballs and there were no noticeable deformations and they weren't "sweating".

I have seen several videos submitted by users that claimed similar problems, but each was several years old. Even saw the review from Colonel Yun on the A5OG regarding the Phenom and the kit.

I have also seen several videos that it all seemed to work. However if something is going to give you a hassle, right out of the box in the privacy of your own back yard, then what about when you are in the field in the middle of a game?!?

Any insight would be helpful otherwise this is going back as I am looking at a $300 plus investment.
