I was just wondering what the bore size of the stock barrel on the A5 was and what some good paint to barrel matches there were for it. Also, what is a good type of paint you'd recommend to a newer paintball player like me?

All stock barrels run large (.693). So any paint you buy, will be smaller than the barrel.

And paint is like anything else, you get what you pay for. What I will recommend, is STAY AWAY from paint from wal-mart, sports authority etc etc Buy your paint at a local paintball store.

Ok thanks. The local store only carries Diablo Heat as far as I know though and those those have a bore size of 0.693. This would be a good match for the stock barrel than right? Also I've heard great things about Impact paintballs and they're sold at Wal-Mart.

It's sure a lot better than monster balls. But paint from wal-mart tends to sit for a long time. You want the freshest paint you can get.

I've seen the shape of boxes of monster balls and trust me I'm not getting any of that. I've tried Strykers before(watery fill and too hard of a shell) and Diablos are much better in my opinion. The Impacts seem to be packaged okay so I might try them. Would anyone happen to know the bore size of Impacts?

the stock barrel is crap (well not the greatest), monster balls' and  jt recon? paintballs works well for the stock barrel.... none of the zap paintballs dont work vary well...too small.

when you get a chance, get a new barrel.

So could I assume that  the woodsball version of X-ball and Inferno X-ball would have close to the same bore size as the gold, silver, and bronze X-ball?

I remember talking to someone who was making stock barrels for Tippmanns several years ago.  He stated that they could make 10 stock barrels in the time it took to make one aftermarket barrel.  This was due to the extra time honing and polishing a high quality aftermarket barrel.  Stock barrels are usually a bit big.  This allows them to fire most junk (out of round or big) paint you might have without breaking it in the barrel.

One note on ball size.  This information changes all the time.  As paintball cutting circles wear out, machines get adjusted, formulas change from winter to summer, and as the weather changes......paintball diameters change.  All paintballs try to be .689.   This is the standard size.
