it is only illegal, as azncowboy said, if it can be adapted to a regular gun.

Interesting. So does anyone know what the Us code is weather a Paintball marker is considered a firearm? Just wondering, this could get very interesting.

firearm?
Well, to be considered a "firearm" the device needs to have a muzzle
velocity of 500 fps or greater (which a paintball gun does not).
The second thing to address is whether or not the suppressor / silencer
can be adapted to a real gun. In most cases not.
So in light of this information it is not illegal to have a suppressor for a
paintball gun because it is not considered a firearm.
But, the fact remains that if you get caught with something like this, you
better hope the cop likes paintball or knows the criminal code and the
Canadian Firearms Act.
But when in doublt... keep it on the down low.

On a side note... great job on the silencer. If you'd like we can share ideas
on suppressor designs.

Actually, to be considered a firearm, it has to be over 700fps.

Also, a paintball gun silencer can easily be adapted to a real firearm.  Lots of duct tape would do the job if no better materials could be found.  That doesn't mean the silencer would be very quiet... But it would be adaptable.

Not to be a stickler for perfection but check out this link:

http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/info_for-renseignement/factsheets/
airguns_e.asp

It clearly states in section 1 that it is 500 fps and higher. I think you're
looking at the rates for a real steel firearm. Airguns, which would be a
paintball gun, have a different standard.

I do agree with your statement about how adaptable it is, but it's definitely
not easy. It's really a judgement call for the officer that catches you with the
silencer.

Canadian gun law does not concern itself with the so-called "evils" such as detachable mags, pistol grips, folding stocks, flash suppressors etc. These items are permitted as long as they don't violate the "under length" criteria.

Silencers aren't illegal in the US... they are illegal in some states but not all.  You DO have to have a class 3 weapons license though as well as pay a $200 tax for short barreled rifles, $200 tax for automatic weapons, and $200 tax for silencers then $5 for each additional weapon.  I am not sure if a civilian can obtain a class 3 weapons license or not but I didn't see anywhere it said you had to be law enforcement or military so I would assume anyone willing to take the time to get the license could do it.  Is it worth all that to have a silencer? Uh... No...  I am not sure where they stand on paintball guns but I think anything that actually muffles the sound is illegal because it would work on a regular firearm with modifications.

I don't really see the point in a silencer anyway... You aren't going to be shooting a real gun where you don't want others to hear... at least you shouldn't be, and as far as paintball is concerned when you shoot the first shot they already know where you are because a marker will only shoot so far.  In the end I just don't think its worth a risk but that is just me.  I think the only fine for having a silencer is $25 here in the US... in some states at least.

Pics like this kinda make me wish I had the money for an A-5 though.  I have a spyder electra, 04 prostock, and a delta... how many of you tippmann fanboys wanna help the needy

I have had cops called on me before... some guy swore I was shooting at him and his cats.  I didn't even have air or a hopper on my gun I was transferring it from one car to another.  The cop just told me to try and keep the gun inside so that guy will leave them alone.

Oh yeah... by the way nice car.  I have a 1978 mustang 2... decent car but I like the older ones better.
