Yep, Russians. I would have liked to be on the German side because I speak it, but I have some Russian uniform pieces and I'm having a gun customized to be Russian, so I'm Russian. That hill at Picasso, oh man I love it! Especially in the early games of the day, when it just like me, maybe about 2-3 other guys, and about 8 first or second time players that all want to stay together; even with 2 to 1 odds, we'd have them box in up on the hill (they see the foxholes and the high ground and think it's safer). I'm usually really friendly and all about helping new players and teach them how to play, and let me just say, they got taught how not to play. Yeah, it's definitely fun to sneak down along the RR tracks (staying in play of course) and when you get to the utility road, just follow it to the hill's backside. Then you just pop up and start hitting people in the back. You get the occasional "Hey ref, he's out of bounds, that doesn't count!"

MattyJ: For the Motherland! Maybe we could team up and just hunt triggerhappy all day haha, I'm just kidding.

yeah one of my favorite things to do starting at the hill side, is get close to those tracks and just bunker hop my way forward. or go in the woods around the city and fight it out. i wont go too close to it though. iv had some bad experiances within the city. and on the ridge (starting on it), ill try to go as far right as possible, go strait up to the road, and sneak my way behind them. iv gotten a lot of kills doing that. a lot of guys have been afraid of my unpredictable charges and how i rush them.

ill look for some of the forum patches before, during, and after the game and maybe meet one of you. ill be in my full some original Waffen SS uniform with all my web gear. i do German WWII reenacting, so i have everything (no i am not some kind of neo-nazi, i just fight for the german army, my fatherland). so i may actualy win an award for periodical accuracy. hope to see you there.

That's sounds cool, I was looking for some authentic uniform pieces, too expensive for me though. I've found some replica/remakes that'll do their purpose fine. Do you have a marker that's all dressed up for the game, like an MP40 or a Mauser?

yeah repros will do fine. most of my stuff is repro, but i talked my bro into lending my some original stuff. Waffen SS original stuff is very expensive, hopefully the paint will wash out. i have russian stuff too because i also do russian reenacting and the stuff is dirt cheap. that would be cool if there were a good amount of snow there too to add to accuracy.

i have an old piranah in a mauser stock, but it doesnt look much like a mauser. i have also fit my automag in an SKS stock, which looks good, but not like any period gun. its in a shortened stock, restained and re polycoated, has a wooden m1 shroud, and an m1 carbine 30rd mag. i call it my "68 Carbine." i dont think ill use it in the game since it doesnt look very realistic, so ill just use it in my normal setup along with my tippmann. if i could find a good way to loose the whole trigger frame, id make a nice mauser replica. but its not easy or maybe not even possible.

what will you be packing?

I got all kinds of heat. My show piece is a bit of a secret that I don't want to say now (I'm not a very good home customizer, but Engler's working on it, I'm going to wait until I get some pictures of it and put it in the marker gallery), but when I get tired of fun play and more into serious mode, I'll either rip out my Angel or Flatty 98. Not much historical accuracy with those two, but my other one will surely be impressive (not bragging or anything, but everybody knows Engler's work).

You say you're Russian reenacting stuff was cheap, where do you get it? Have you ever been to Raul's Army/Navy out in Berlin on the White Horse Pike? I haven't been there, but I'm thinking about dropping by someday, I've heard he's got a lot of goodies.

the repro and even original things are cheap compared to SS stuff anyway. i go to some military shows and people sell stuff at events. i got my whole repro uniform for i think $120. im not really an expert on this stuff though. i just do some events with my brother who is really into it. russian stuff is cheap because theres just so much of it out there. unlike most german stuff that was thrown into the sea by us.

never been to those places. the only official militaria store iv really ben to is igoldburgs in philly which i think went out of bussiness. but you can find cheap stuff at some flea markets, or better yet, military or WWII shows.

Cool. Yeah, I Goldberg did go out of business, there used to be one in Cherry Hill, too. Those shows sound interesting, maybe I'll try to get out to one. I hope you don't mind me asking, but how do I find when and where they'll be taking place? Oh, I might have just answered that, my grandfather's VFW magazines come to our house.

EDIT: Nevermind, nothing in the VFW mags.

my brother knows some dates. hes more into this stuff. most are generaly in the spring/summer. but ill ask him when the next local show is next time i see him and tell you. im not sure of any sites, but some other WWII magazines or sites may have a calender.

looks like theres a good chance of some snow up at skirmish. hopefully some left or added to what were getting tomorrow. that would make it even cooler. it would be great if they or us made bunkers and stuff out of snow. would a sharpened german shovel be considered a knife or even be allowed?

Oh man, there better be snow, it'll make it seem more like a Russian winter and Stalingrad! Yeah, tomorrow I've heard as much as 1 foot plus, and usually the Poconos get more than us. I'm going to say bring the shovel anyway and ask them, just tell them it's part of your uniform, they'll might allow. That's a good idea though, shovels; and if it's really deep maybe some of those tennis racket-looking footware for trudging through snow. My buddy works for the township and he's thinking about "borrowing" some white jumpsuits, just in case.

the pocanos got around a foot. and more snow is expected this week and next along with cold to preserve it. and theres no melting up there any time soon. from philidelphia, its about 10* colder up there, maybe 15* for jersey. so who knows, there may be 2ft+ by next weekend. snowshoes are a good idea (which i have homemade ones that look accurate). i also have german "overwhites" to wear over my uniform so i should blend in good. i cant wait. i just hope they dont shedule my community service that day! (got arrested for playing paintball in a township i was unaware it was ilegle. long story.)

are you leaving saturday morning, or friday night? were going friday night and staying at my uncles pocano house. so well be there early. if you havnt thought of it, you should fill your tanks before going there so you can get right in the game and not wait.

Staying at my neighbors house friday night; no kidding, when you exit his developement, you can see the D-Day beaches; from my understanding, that'll be the general area where check-in and parking will be located. We're go to bring a fill station, so I'll probably fill before we leave home at my local shop, than after playing around in the backyard Friday night (you know, typical engineer, never satisfied with the current setup, always tweaking it...), I'll top of my tank. I'm not too worried about it though, because check in is at 9 for us pre-regs and the game doesn't start until 11, but most likely there will be a mad rush for air and paint an hour before gametime.

I just ordered my uniform pieces about 20 minutes ago, and you were right about that stuff being cheap; I got a wool overcoat (new, Russian, never issued) for less than $30. Plus a belt and ammo pouches (they're actually British but look a lot like the Russian ones). I already own one of those fur hats with the ear flaps and and the Soviet emblem on the front (I believe it's called an "ushanka").

More snow overnight! I hope my morning classes are canceled so I don't have to voyage into the city too early.

do you live up that way? i thought you lived in new jersey. i live in the county outside philly (montgomery), and the Pocanos are about an hour and a half away give or take. but the house we staying at is only 15mins away. so we wont be late. im bringing a 20oz, and my 68/3000 filled so i can beat the air rush and just wait for paint. theres lockers there right? im bringing a lot of extra stuff, and i need to put it all somewhere. how much to rent a locker?

my brother just told me theres a reenactment that weekend, so i wont be able to wear everything i wanted because he found a replacement to go. but theres going to be snow, so my overwhites will hide what i wont have.

i heard they got above 10inches ontop of what they had before (i think about 2ft). and its still forcasted to snow more this week and next. now im definatly bringing my snowshoes, and secondary "dulled" shovel.

Yes, I do live in New Jersey; my neighbor across the street here in Jersey owns a vacation home up in the Poconos. We're going to try to leave as soon as possible on that Friday ( it'll take us at most hour and 45); we want to avoid the Philly rush hour. I have a class that ends at 2:00, so my neighbor is going to pull his son and his friend out of school early to come pick me up , since Drexel is already half way through the city.

I don't know about lockers; we're just going to stow away all our gear in our vehicles in the parking lot. I suggest just doing the same, hide the keys somewhere where on the vehicle where everyone in your group knows where they are. At EMR this past OCtober we hid the keys in the driver side wheel-well. I heard that, at least around my way, it's going to maybe rain and turn the snow into that slushy, icy crap. I don't think that'll be a problem at Skirmish though, the temperature is lower by about 15 degrees like you said earlier.

well leave friday night around 5pm, maybe earlier. traffics not too bad going north on the pa turnpike away from the city, so well arrive  maybe a little later. no real rush though. then were going back to the house after the game, and ice fishing on sunday if were able. i just saw its $99 for an induvidual case! i thought it was $72, but i learned that is the cheapest you can get for 12 people. thats a total scam. maybe ill find more people and say were all together.

im sure they have lockers. if not ill either not bring as much stuff, or call and get my stuff brought over. ill call tomorrow to find out. if they do itll probaly be $20 to rent one with their rates. if they had better prices or BYOP, they would make more money. im never going to skirmish other than scenario games. for me, its good old picasso lake.

Skirmish is pretty well-known for their horrible paint prices. Just find another group of people looking to buy paint and buy it all at once to get the bulk rate, that's what I do at D-day every year. There will be other people looking to do this too so it won't be hard to find somebody to buy with. I haven't used their lockers but I remember them saying that there weren't enough for everybody there and it was first come first serve so get there early if you want one. I would suggest bringing your car to the field and leaving your stuff in there if possible. Either that or bring only what you need and some minor extras (tools, etc.) that you can lock in a bag. They have a table or two by the registration building there where you can leave your stuff. I'm not sure why they charge so much there but it's been that way for years and it doesn't look like their changing anything. I'd never go there for anything but a scenario or a tournament though because, like you said, the prices are terrible. Their fields are nice and they have a lot of land but they still charge a bit too much.

Between the 7 of us, we're going to buy 12 cases, no matter what, just to get the discount. That's what I was going to suggest to you and anyone else; ask the people parked around you if they want to group up and buy paint together.

Just remember this: if they lowered the cost of paint, they'd have to raise the cost of admission. They have over 700 acres of land; that's a lot of money they have to shell out for taxes, insurance, maintenance, staffing, etc. One way or another, they'll get the money out of you, and they don't make that much profit, even after the $100 cases of paint.

If you buy 5-11 cases, you get them at $85 each. Not too bad when compared to $99 a case. 12 and up will cost $72 each. If you run into me, we could tack you onto our group when we go to buy paint. Or if you meet up with some of the people chatting in the Stalingrad thread, you could get a group going. This would be like finding a needle in a haystack though, but it could happen.

Less than one week to go! My gear is already packed!
