    Posted: 06 June 2007 at 4:53pm

There's not much that separates the X7 from an A5 other than it's looks.  Although some features of the X7 are nice, it doesn't really add much to the overall performance of the gun (magazine toolkit, site rails, etc.)  However, I believe there's potential for the X7 where we have the magazine.  I wouldn't mind seeing battery housing inside the magazine with nine volt batteries that supply the E-Grip.  Maybe even have a built in gauge to see when battery power is running low.  The lines could either be run from inside the gun or from the base of the magazine to the base of the E-grip.  You’d of course have to protect the lines, but I’m sure there are a few designs that would work.  Of course, this idea doesn’t have to just be built into the magazine.  There’s plenty of rails that would work great for battery housing.  I think this would be a fantastic upgrade for the X7.  Not only could battery removal be accomplished without having to take the gun apart (if mounted on the rails), but it would also give your electronic marker unsurpassed battery life for long scenario games.

i actually like that idea.  The Mag and the grip are pretty close, it wouldn't be too hard to make.  An LCD screen would be cool also.  Expensive, but cool.

I was thinking of a design to run the wires if it’s not possible to go through the gun.  I’m sure most of you have seen pictures of a P90 submachine gun.  The design has a very nice flow to it.  Perhaps there is a way to take the magazine out and engineer a way for the cords to flow into the bottom of the E-Grip handle via a composite housing.  Whether or not this would be separate from the handle itself, or just one large designed piece that includes the E-Grip frame, I’m not sure.  It would be more efficient if it was separate as far as changing batteries, but it might loose some of its durability if the design doesn’t include the trigger frame.  Here’s a rough blueprint I made to give you an idea.  This one takes a look at the P90 flow.  As you can see, the battery housing would not only hide the wires that run into the bottom of the E-Grip, but it also hides our gas through hose line.  I myself use a vertical handle on mine, but I didn’t Photoshop that in.

And as Styro Folme has already said, you could put an LCD screen anywhere on this to see where your batterylife is at.

Another mockup including the toolkit.

The grey in these images are of course the outline too the composite housing.  The white lines are labeled so you have an idea where everything goes.

First post:

I wasen't liking it until you explained how it would be good for quick changes... very good idea actually.

I don't like your p90/x7 pics though.

It's a good idea, just doesn't flow in your pictures. (which i'm sure are rough sketches)

I'm sure there's enough room to run two tiny wires through the x7 anyways.

I think styro folme was also referring to the use of the lcd screenmore for extra displays and features, not just battery life.

Yah, I realized that the pics show a massive cosmetic upgrade that really are unneeded and only increase weight and profile of the gun.  If we were too take a minimalist approach the wires would be ran through the gun while the 9volts would be housed inside a new, more durable weather-proofed magazine.  As far as extra displays and features on an LCD screen I think that would be a great idea.  I wonder if it’s possible to have a feature the chrono’s your gun for you.

You could probably do something like that with an A5B5 Bullpup kit. There is alot of extra space around the electronics

The quick-change battery idea is very good, something I would buy/make if I had an electro X7. However, I think it would be much more cost-effective to use LED's as battery life indicators since an elaborate LCD setup is unnecessary and will boost the cost. One red LED could be used to show when the battery is getting low which draws very little power, gets the point across, and is easier to setup and install than a big LCD screen. You could also have a 3 LED setup with green, yellow, and red to give a slightly better idea how much life is left. The LCD would be cool but I think it's overkill for this application. Using LED's and just throwing a battery in the clip, it would only cost probably like $10 if you already have some wire and the proper tools (wire cutters/strippers, soldering iron & solder, etc.). Wouldn't be too expensive at all and it would be a pretty cool mod.

this idea is very interesting.

maybe it would be possible to run the wires through the body with a little milling (similar to a 98c with eyes running through the body).  It would be hard, but would definitely be cosmetically acceptable.

Option 1: The lcd screen could indicate firing mode, as well as battery life, not to mention the rest of the possibilities with an lcd screen.  You could use a rechargeable battery instead of nine-volts, much like an angel.  This would be the more clean and efficient option, but it would be pretty expensive.

Option 2:  You could use a single led light, instead of an expensive lcd screen, to indicate a low battery.  You could have the mag be merely a battery pack, which would have a couple nine-volts (number depending on mag size), and be very easy to interchange, in case your batteries poop out on you mid-scenario.  All you do is buy/make an extra mag and carry it with you. They would be cheap, due to the simplicity of this option.  This is the more cost-friendly option, and adds a bit more milsim feel to the X7.

these are the two ideas i have in my head.  They're the two best options i can think of.  Thoughts?

this seems like an awsome idea
but... one quick question how would you quickly snap on the batteries with
battery snaps? Because the problem I see would be once you take it off you
would have to open the magazing, if you had the batteries over top of each
other or, if you had them side by side then you might have some problems
quickly connencting the battery snaps

(sorry i would make a pic in photoshop or paint but i got a mac computer
and dont have those programs plus im not sure how to post pics. so you will
have to use your imagination to try and understand the concept that im
talking about)
