Does anyone know where you can find an expansion chamber for a 98? Seems like they are few and far between. Is there a way to make a custom one?

Do you have a M98, 98C or 98Custom Platinum?

Expansion chamber for Platinum: http://www.rufusdawg.com/product/210A-98PSEX/Tippmann-98-Platinum-Series-Expansion-Kit.html

For the M98 or 98C, really any expansion chamber that screws into a normal ASA will work. Google Expansion Chamber Tippmann 98 and you should come up with some useable leads.

On a side note, I am surprised to see that these are no longer offered by Tippmann anymore in their lineup. I always thought these were pretty popular. With HPA tanks as cheap as they are now, perhaps it's time to look at HPA instead of CO2?

You could go back to the 1990's I guess...
I never really understood the point of expansion chambers- just seemed kinda gimmicky to me.
Although I am almost completely uneducated on how different gases affect markers so grab a grain of salt with my opinion.

Expansion chambers do actually help with CO2, remote lines help as well.

I have a regular 98. So where would the expansion chamber screw in? With the kits, the vertical adapter is used to run the expansion chamber from the front grip. That cant be the only way to do it...
The reason I use CO2 is I got a really good deal on a 20 lb tank and I do my own fills. For me, it was all about making things easier. Compressed air tanks are great but I don't have a local dive shop, so getting fills or buying a large scuba tank is tougher then CO2. Its all about preference I guess. As for the question about expansion chambers being kinda useless, I have to disagree. CO2 is a liquid. As it warms, it turns into a gas and that's what propels the paint out of the gun. By adding an expansion chamber, you are allowing the CO2 more time to expand into a gas, thus allowing better air consistency every time the marker is fired. Please correct me if I am wrong, this is just what I believe happens. There are others who have more experience in the field and could prob give you the right answer or a better answer.

If it's a Model 98 or 98Custom (non-Platinum), you wall have to get the expansion chamber that comes with the foregrip adapter. Another option, but a bit more money is going with Palmers Pursuit Shop stabilizer. They make a setup specifically for the 98C.

when you say regular 98... would that bugger have gills?
I get the principals behind it, maybe it's just because I live in Texas and it's hot as hell round here.

Yes sir, its the gilled 98. I actually got it from a guy that had a small shop. I traded him a Diablo Mongoose for it lol. The guy thought he was getting a killer deal and threw in a bunch of other freebies with the 98. The gun was in rough shape when I got it but I cleaned it, painted it, put on homemade wood grips, new hardware and now it looks almost brand new!!!! I have a pic of it posted in the marker gallery section, go check it out! I like the old-school look of the 98 with the gills :)
I am thinking about putting an expansion chamber on it, new barrel, and maybe a rocket cocker. Nothing too fancy but enough to make it a better all-around marker :)

 of the old 98?

I play and occasionally ref at Petty's pretty exclusively these days, although not much lately since I got kicked off my ranch.
You should check out http://texaspumpandpistolgame.com/.
If you ever wanted an introduction to pump paintball/limited paint play(and whether you know it or not, you do!), you need to go to this game.
In my 10 to 13 years of off and on play, last year's spring game at Petty's was easily the funnest, most laid back, easy going game of honest to god paintball I've ever played.
I might be reffing this year... but the fact of the matter is we didn't even need refs at the last one at Petty's (everyone called themselves out and had respect for their fellow players) so I'll probably get some game time in.
I'll say it again- go to the spring Texas Pump and Pistol Game at Petty Paintball, you'll see a whole new world of fun, honest, and cheap paintball.
And if you don't have a pump by then, I or someone at the game usually will have a loaner.
I've got 4 pumps, and 2 pistols... so I'll probably have somethin for ya if you decide to go.
