I might be buying a 98 custom soon, and some of the titles got confusing. I figured out that you can buy a ultra basic for 20 dollars less but it has no 'act or hopper' does that mean that any non-ultra basic aready has a hopper, and how good is act really. I've only played paintball 3 times so I have never had a ball chop.

ACT is really good.  The "anti chop technology" will keep paintballs from breaking if you have a jam.  The main reason to get the ultra basic is if you are planning to install a cyclone feed on your gun.  With the cyclone feed, the ACT is not needed and the hopper is (of course) redundant.

Not really. The ACT does not help the marker feed faster, just helps eliminate chopping. If someone intends to increase their rate of fire through the installation of an E-grip or Response Trigger, they will need a forcefed hopper of some sort. The ACT alone will not increase their feed rate to keep up.

^^^ I think he meant to say the timing of feeding and marker operation that is integral to the Cyclone is what makes ACT unnecessary on Cyclone-equipped markers.
