SAW Stock O-ring?

   Purchased a SAW stock for the A5 and it came with an o-ring that I do not know what it's needed for.  The stock fits extremely tight so no wobbles.  Actually, the o-ring would not allow the stock to slide in.  The piece that I removed from the A5 (buttplate?) has a cushion.  Is this o-ring to replace that?  Does it just sit loose around the spring to dampen the bolt as it recocks?  Sorry for the noob question!
