Ok my friend is getting into the sport of paintball and needs his first marker. He's not interested in Tippmann's and has a maximum price of about 225. All recomendations are welcome but please back them up with some reasoning. Thanks.

A gun is not a weapon... It's a tool. Like a butcher knife, or a harpoon, or...uh, a...an alligator. |

well, if its 225 for just the gun, i would guess get the wrath in that situation, itll run on co2 so you dont need hpa, they only 250 so 25 over what he wants but if its 225 for all, i guess he should just get a spyder or a used gun if he doesnt like tippmanns |

NASA and the Americans spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to develop a pen that would write in space.....The Russians used a pencil.

The Psycho Ballistics guns are hit-and-miss in the quality department. There are people who have gotten those Lightnings, and had great results from them. There's also people who got them and could NEVER get them to function properly. Not to mention, the PB guns don't come with a regulator, or air setup, so you're already looking at another $40-$100 for a reg, and $25-$40 or so for an air mount. The only thing they really have going for them is their low initial cost ($90 if you look a little bit), but is that REALLY a bargain?
Notice if you will, MROD's friend is just getting into paintball. Any AutoCocker-style gun is going to be, in all likelyhood, a bad idea. Why? Cockers promote tinkering, and that's not a great idea if you're not 100% sure what you're doing with them. Best thing in this situation is to get something easy to work with, reliable, and forgiving. Spyders are going to be a good choice in this price range, since Tippmanns are eliminated from the equation. Take a look at some of the nicer Spyders, and your friend should be fairly happy. The other route to go is the used market, which can be a double-edged sword. Sometimes you can get a great deal, sometimes you don't. |
