I bought my model 98 from a friend a while ago and I have played with it quite a few times using co2 and It shot pretty straight/accurate. The last time I played (using co2) it was shooting kind of off and not so straight. I just bought a ninja compressed air tank and even using that it still isn't shooting accurately. I have an 18 inch barrel on it and there is nothing wrong with it. I don't know what the problem could be. If anyone has any ideas of what the problem is or what I should do to fix it, I would really appreciate it?

Check the velocity, clean the barrel and look for broken paint in the hopper and in the chamber.
Oh, and check the paintballs for deformities. Edited by Mack - 10 March 2013 at 1:22am |

The thing is the velocity doesn't change either way I turn it. The barrels clean and I was using paintballs from the place I was playing at ( Central Florida Paintball). I feel like I may need to replace the gas line system?

What velocity is it firing at?
Is there a velocity screw in place in the marker? |

Might be a problem with the barrel. If there is any build up inside the barrel, it could be grabbing the paintballs and putting spin on them.

Would getting a better spring help anything and it's actually shooting more like 235-270 fps?

Sounds like bad paint, or bad paint to barrel match.
If the paintballs are much smaller than the bore, air is going to escape all around the ball as it's being propelled down the barrel causing two issues. 1) Inconsistent velocity and 2) poor accuracy. I had this issue with my autococker as paint kept getting smaller and smaller in diameter. Either finding a paint that works well consistently with your barrel and sticking with it, or getting a barrel that will accept various diameter inserts (freak kit, kaner kit, etc) so you can match the insert to the paint you are using that day. Also, the barrel length can actually contribute to velocity issues and inaccuracy by increasing drag and requiring more air to get the ball up to the muzzle velocity you desire. As a general rule of thumb established over a decade ago on this forum and others, 11.5"-14" is the optimum barrel length. |

Alright. I'll try different paint and see if that works, but I also have an adapter for the barrel (the regular barrel is 16 inches but with the adapter it's about 2 inches) (I don't know if that would effect anything). Thanks for the help!

If I end up getting a shorter barrel what is the best choice, but at a decently low cost.

J&J barrels are not to much ($30-$35), yet they are still good quality.

QFT! They also tend to run a little tighter on the bore, but without being so tight as to cause breakage of larger stuff. If you're going to go with a non-kit barrel, the J&J ceramic is one of the forum favorites. I still use one on my Autococker and Mini. |

So a j&j "14" ceramic would be good?
