picture the bullet of an m16 but in paintball form i came up with this idea in a dream and when i woke up i thoght what a good idea for scenario paintball making wars and protect the president i think the only fault is you would need a very powerful gun like a tippmann
p.s i wish i coulod have some kind of picture |

All markers are as powerful as the next. And because of they way paintballs are, this will not work. Niether would rifling as many of you newer players think. Paintballs are like jell-o. They wont ever be as accurate as a real gun. Making them bullet shape will accually make it less accurate.

Yeah but that wouldn't do much for a) paintballs image and b) our safety. We would go from have little round projectiles to pointed dangerous "bullets". They would be more accurate but they would do alot of damge on impact from close up, especially to goggles

Wow. I may be new to the game but bullet shapped paintballs? Ya, cool idea but... Deffinately not happening, at least no time soon. |

How do you know?? you have never tried it. I agree about the rifling, but hey ya never know until you try. |

Sorry, He's right. The problem is simple physics. The shell of a paintball cannot resist the forces needed to grip a rifled barrel to generate enough spin to make it accurate, no matter what its shape is. The only way to do this is t increase the thickness of the shell. Thicker shell means that more force is needed for it to break. More force means much higher liability costs for paintball fields and much tougher safety equipment. If you don't want to have to wear a welders mask and pay $500 to play paintball, just give it up now. As for a rifle bullet shaped paint ball, you get into huge manufacturing costs and feed system problems. However if you can make it work for a resonable price you'll make a ton of money. It's already been done. Police and military training units use "paint" rounds for scenarios. The difference is, these projectiles(ussually in 9mm) are fired from real firearms and run at about 900fps. The "perp" in these scenarios normally wears light kevlar and heavy clothes to absorb the impact. Short of a drastic change in composition and propulsion, paint bullets aren't gonna happen. |

Yes, police and army do use them. And even with the kevlar they still leave some painful marks.
As for the riffled barrels not working, you are dead wrong. Eveer heard of the Hammerhead? Go check them out. They actually came up with a riffled design that works well. And actually making them bullet shaped would make them more accurate. Spinning projectile? Hello? Someone needs to work out some physics problems. |

the rounds looked like this "But the problem is...That's going to increase gravity's pull (more weight) and you're going to have to lower your FPS. |

Not if it was a riffled barrel and the round was spinning in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Ballistics man. |

Paintball ballistics and Gun ballistics are 2 totally different things. But instead of my wasting 4 hours of my time explaining why, Il just give my friends artical on it. http://forum.ariakon.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=900&PN=1 .......READ IT BEFORE YOU TRY AND PROVE ME WRONG......1 word...PWNED Edited by Ariakon_Eagle |

I did read the article out of respect for your wishes, and decided that that quote summed it up. This guy makes the point that it IS possible to do. By increasing the viscosity of the paint and the strength of the shell, it is very possible. He also says that that is dangerous. Now notice that I have not disagreed with those two points. The paint bullets the army and police use to train are proof enough that it is very much possible. What is better proof than seeing it preform in real life? However, I have seen friends of mine do that and they get terrible welts from it. You should also consider the evidence that the Hammerhead barrel DOES put an axis on the ball. Go check them out for yourself. I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the name Tom Kaye, but at the recent MXS Texas Throwdown in Houston, Texas, he publically endorsed the product just because he could. Hearing Tom Kaye say that he was always a believer of smooth bore barrels endorse a riffled one, well that's one hell of an endorsement. So in conclusion, yes to the possible, no to the practical. Insurance alone forbids it. |
