I recently added some new parts to my 98 custom and am having problems getting my velocity right. I added a 14" teardrop, expansion chamber kit, a 32 degrees venturi bolt, and a 32 degrees coiled remote. I use a 20 oz CO2 bottle. The problem is that I can not get the velocity to go above an average 240 fps no matter how much I unscrew the adjuster. It was also very inconsistent. The highest shot I got was 273. Some of the balls were not shaped too well which may account for the consistency problem. I found no sign of any leaks.

I plan on swapping out parts to try and locate the source of the problem next weekend and am wondering if anyone has any other tips before I do so. I will also be trying several different paintball brands. My valve bolts are tight, but the head is stripping on one and will need to be replaced. I was careful when cleaning the loctite from the vavle when installing the expansion kit to not get any debris in there.

So does anyone have anything else to try? Any help is appreciated.

Take your each upgrade off and test your gun after each time. You'll find out the problem sooner or later.

It's going to be your venturi bolt. I don't know of any bolt that works better than the stock one, and I've heard plenty of complaints about velocity problems when using aftermarket bolts.

It may not be necessary to use an expansion chamber when using a remote line, using the remote or the expansion chamber by themselves will probably help consistency.

Check to make sure there are no small leaks anywhere on the gun.  Also make sure all your screws and 2 valve screws are in.  If there are not this can be the problem.

If you have all your or screws, switch the bolt back to the stock one and see what that does.

Remote and Expansion chamber help each other out. You have better consistancy with both than you would with one or the other.

I can tell you hands down its the bolt. I switched my stock out for a hyperstar and velocity dropped to 240-250. Took it out, right back up into the proper range.

The bolt doens't seal properly with the barrel. The oring is too far back, it actually never seals with the barrel, so you lose a ton of excess gas back through the feed neck and else where.

I was having the exact same problem, except i didn't put in a new bolt,. i was at a tourney and it wouldn't shoot above 200, so i refilled my tank and it went to 230, but it still wouldn't shoot over 250. . . all i have done is an expansion chamber

I agree, its the bolt. You dont have a venturi bolt, you have a Hyperstar Bolt. They dont and cant make Venturi bolts for the 98.

The Hyperstar does not seal up with the barrel, and air to propell the paintball is lost. Loose that POS! Theres nothing better than your stock internals.
