Here is the process im not done yet but this is how far ive gotten.

For this paintjob I used my backup Spyder Compact 2000

1-You need to get your marker out and on a flat surface so you dont loose any parts.

2-Take your marker apart so you have only the body of the marker nothing inside and your barrel is off. (sry forgot to take a picture but remembered a while after I started sanding down the front)

3-Make sure you wetsand your marker because you dont want it ruff after sanding it or the scratches will show thrue your paint.

4-Make sure the surface of the marker is clean from any dirt or dust.

5-Make sure you cover  up all of the holes so that you dont get paint on the inside of the marker this can be bad. I used paper towel wads to do this you can use anything that will fill the hole that is able to be pulled out later.

6-First thing you do is set something on the floor so your parents dont yell because you got paint on the garage floor or something.
Next set the body on it however you want. And put a coat of primer on.

This is the primer I used it worked very well and came out very smooth.


As you can see I covered the floor with a plastic bag from wal-mart. None got on the floor I was very happy with that.

You are going to want to do more then one coat of primer I did 3-4 coats because I had to sand a part down that had a spot in it. But that doesnt happen often. 2-3 coats is plenty.
   Let the primer dry before each coat and make sure you cover everywhere on your marker.

Finally you can choose the color you would like to use.

I chose a orange but I am going to be doing another coat of another color.
Here is the orange I will put a finished product later on when I finish it.

Well there you go thats how ive done it so far I know people have asked about it I was thinking about making this a sticky but I want to see what other people thing first.

Now its stickied...

1. strip your marker with aluminum safe stripper ,or sand it 100 % , get all the lil corners

2. Prime it with either acrylic (easier) , or Enamel (more durable , but cures slower) , be sure to mask off ANYTHING you dont want paint to get into .

3. Paint the Base coat , coat the entire gun .

4. Put the fade on as you wish , the further away , and faster you stroke the paint can the more the "fade effect " will be . Hint , practice on a piece of carboard first .

5. finish your project with a compatible clearcoat , follow the manufacturer's instructions . and give it at least 3 coats . allow ample time between coats to cure , other wise you will have "Battle scars" to show off too .

Misc hints , Find a sunny place to allow paint to cure between coats , I used the oven , preheated to 150 F (door open , Fumes can go BOOM !!)

DO NOT mix paint types , stick with either acrylic ,or enamel , funny things will happen if you dont !!

Dont apply coats of paint til the gun has cooled , you'll be sorry .

Enamel will be "soft" for several weeks ,if you're inna hurry ,use acrylic ,it cures faster , but not as hard , expect chips

Paint is the only thing I know of that dry's from the outside in,, even tho it may look good , and feel good fresh , its still gonna be soft for a while , no matter which paint you use

When you sand be sure to sand in the same direction so the you dont see the scratches at all. 

Not bad I was going to sticky a version of my own right before I left for basic.

I think its gonna be atleast another week im trying to find a design I want on the sides of the marker. Then putting the send color in...

Good post, lots of people want to make their marker unique, and this is a good way to do it.

Here are some other directions from the forum. Just incase people need it worded differently.

Materials:
1.Steel Wool (optional)
2. Primer
3. Spray Paint
4. Clear Coat
5. Dermal (optional)
6. Tape (optional)


1. Field Strip your marker, take everything out so you just have your receiver halves.


2. Use either a dermal or steel wool to strip off all the paint off your marker (yes the stock tippmann black or silver paint) be sure to get UNDER the marker and the BACK of the marker (these are spots I almost missed)


3. Wipe down your marker with a Wet Cloth to make sure you get all the debris off of it, and to see if you missed any spot where some paint might still be.


4. Tape off your internals so no paint will get on the inside, cover all the holes and everything (this step is optional)


5. Spray about 3-4 LIGHT coats of primer. Let dry. Go back and see if you missed a spot and to be sure both receivers are completely covered with the primer.



6. Spray the spray paint on the marker, about 3-4 coats and let dry. Just like doing the primer but colored. Make sure you got every where on the marker. Make sure the coats are Light and smooth on both receiver halves… let dry


7. Now, Spray both receivers halves with some clear coat, make sure you cover the entire marker. Make the coats light and quick. This should make your marker look a little "shiny" and "smooth"… let dry


8. If your internals were taped off then they should look fine on the inside. If they don’t or you didn’t tape them off then get out your steel wool (EXTRA fine steel wool) or dermal and polish up your internals or just polish it up so the paint, primer or clear coat is gone.


9. Put your newly painted marker together


10. Show off

Another way to paint your maker is to use Auto-motive paint. Get some sand paper and sand down the paint on your tippmann (the stock tippmann paint) just a little bit. Spray 3-4 coats of primer on, then the paint and then the clear coat. The process is the same just you didn’t sand off all the stock tippmann paint. The paint will be much "thicker" and it may be a little harder to install your screws because of the thicker paint. Etc. Also it tends to be "Mushy" and not as durable as the other paintjob but it still turns out great!



Of coarse the paint is going to chip and scratch etc. But just get some nail polish to touch up scratches, cheap, your wife/girlfriend has plenty of them and comes in a variety of colors.

Yes you can....

The farther you hold the paint can away the more fade look you get. So I guess you start closer and bring it away quickly.

O ya another thing Shadow your the lame one thing you know all about this what did you think you sent me the instructions on this? Maybe crimp but hes just  hes been banned how many times now.

this is my paintjob before i added the clearcoat, which made it a little darker.  i used a wire wheel to completely remove the stock power coat then used a series of sandpaper (100, 220, 600, 1000)grit.  the i used some cheap automotive spray paint to create the fade effect. about 3-4 coats of each color.  its been about a month since i painted this beauty, and i already have quite a few nics and scratches in it.  i intend to repaint soon using stripper and following the same process but baking the recievers when they have dried(250 degrees for about 1/2 hour) this makes the paint incredibly durable.

My mistake Dying2live , I misread a part of your post and got all bent about it , I thought I saw a quote from a PM I sent another person .

 I do know quite a bit about some things , and Hate getting ripped off when I go out of my way to help someone . Ya somebody we both know is on my  List , lol, wonder why...

You should Really do something to prepare the surface of the original paint to accept the new paint you are going to be applying , at LEAST de-gloss it with Tri-Sodium Phosphate (might not work) .

I would highly recommend at least sanding it , to give the new paint something to adhere to , stripping it and going from bare metal would give Ya the most durable that you would be able to get,,but if you plan on changing colors a few times , just to find what you like , a thorough surface sanding should work . it just may not be quite as durable .
