So I have almost completed my latest Tippmann beast.
This is a completly unassisted mechanical Tippmann that as of last test shot at 13bps. With the new trigger work I am hoping for an increase in the speed.
A few parts still need to be had such as a new valve and a low pressure chamber, but it is basically complete.
A few parts aren't shown such as my brand new Freak kit with 14" red front and stainless inserts.
Don't mind the brass fittings right now, as I am in the process of making a shroud that would cover them.
Right now the gun operates around 300 - 350 psi, but I plan to lower that when I get the new valve.
Here are all the pictures so you can view the whole gun.
http://www.umbrellacorporation.co.uk/projekt_panzer_luftgewehr.htm - Projekt Panzer Luftgewehr
And for those of you who don't know German, Panzer Luftgewehr translates to Armoured Airgun.

Sorry about the initial image problems.
And leave feedback if you like, but honestly I don't care what you think if you don't like it. This was more a project to see just how far I could push a mechanical Tippmann Model 98 Custom.
I like it and am very proud of it.

It's a DM98!
Besides bodywork, what else have you done for major mods?
|
Posted By: SnakeEyes
Date Posted: 18 July 2004 at 8:31pm
Mods
1. Home made Low Pressure kit
2. Home made wire double trigger (it's fully rounded on all edges)
3. Lightened rear bolt
4. Vert fed
5. 1mm trigger pull at the trigger stop
6. Quick strip 3 piece modular body
7. Oh yeah, I removed the trigger safety as well because the trigger pull is so short that the safety is now rendered useless. I can have it on and still fire the gun.
And I am glad that you thought it looked like a DM4, that is actually what I was going for. Just a little more subtle than the UFO appearence of the DM4.

this project of urs stirs my interest, looks like u could shave the end of the flame drop to be flush with the reciever. i too am experimenting with my sear/triggerslide/bolt, but with little progress. im interested to see what the shroud your constructing looks like. post more pics with the freak when ur done.

I thought about cutting the flame drop flush with the grip, but because I drilled an extra hole in there so I could move it back I decided that it would be better to leave it so I could later sell it or adjust it if i felt it necessary.
Although it looks like it might be in the way, it isn't at all.

Yup, I milled the Rocket Cock as well.
1. Cut off the mount wings that were used to bolt it to the gun.
2. Fabricated a new aluminum strap to hold the milled Rocket Cock.
3. Welded said aluminum strap onto body.
4. Filled all the rough edges with Bondo and sanded down into the flowing lines.

Awesome work!
Most unique 98 I've ever seen.
A couple questions though....
What reg is that? It looks like a Palmer Stab, except that it's tapered at the top. Custom work?
What kind of fittings did you use instead of the t fitting vert. adapter? Looks interesting.

The reg is a Palmer Stabalizer Direct.
I used a few 1/8" NPT T fittings connected with some 3/4" NPT connectors. Red Loctite 272 holds everything solid.

if the gun itself wasnt so long, it would be one of the coolest looking guns out there. thats including DM4's and Timmies. but tippmanns are just too long to look great. the gun is probably a little unbalanced because the reg is not right below the feedneck. im not 100% liking the open linkage arm, but i shoot a cocker and its got a lot of moving parts, so i guess it cant be that bad. finish it up too. like make the trigger and the fittings look better and itll be hot.
as for teh good things. that has to be the MOST coolest freaking milling i have seen on a tippmann. ever. its got full rear cocking, and the milled in rocket cock is bangin. cant wait to see the shroud.

mona lisa is hot.
hey you used the same t gas fittings as me! i think this should qualify you as my pier(however u spell that). i feel so special .
id give ur gun a 10/10 mostly cuz atleast some1 agrees with me that this is a great idea. i love the paintjob, and by the way did u just use like a toaster oven or wat.
i would say the only thing i wouldve changed is the way you obviosly got a little carried away with the bondo hehe... i also dont like how, alright u got a rocket cock under the bondo and all... but forget about going electric right?
i love that thing u did where the safety should be, just cuz it looks cool but i think it would be cool if some1 could engrave that instead of using bondo. note- i will most likely steal that little idea and use it.
by the way all my pics i think are still up but... are really out of date, i think thats what they looked like... like last year? oh well, i totally agree with u not showing ALL of ur custom work. but gun looks nice.
keep up the good work.

Dack, I do not plan on going electro with my Tippmann.
Ashran, hopefully it will be the fastest non-RT blowback gun ever. And if not, it will still be stupid fast for a fully mech gun.
Evil, what screw are you talking about? As for the brass fittings I am working on a cosmetic alum. shroud to cover them, but most likely I will just resort to spraying them the same color as the gun.
And Dack again, glad you enjoy my webpage index. Unfortunatly its really just a place holder. I haven't updated it in a long time. But you can tell that at the time I was planning on starting up some paintball industry.

I have to agree with you on the length of the Tippmann. Because I didn't feel like reworking the internals to shrink stuff up only a small bit, I opted to move the from grip back and replace it with a vert mounted reg.
What's really funny about the length of my gun though is that I put my gun without a barrel next to my teammates 04 Shocker with a 45/4500 tank and 12" Freak and the Shocker was only 1" longer.

Oops, sorry, I meant to address that.
What I did was spray down a half dozen or so coats of the base red paint. Followed it with 3 finishing coats of red and then 2 finishing coats of black allowing each coat to air dry before repainting.
Then I clear coated the whole shebang with a spray can of automotive clear coat from Wal-Mart.
Then I put all the painted parts into my regular house oven and brought the temp up to 250*F for about half an hour.
Turned the oven off and left the door open to cool everything down.
After that it was rock hard.
As for electro, I have a brandy new black 04 Vision Shocker with Free Flow bolt on my order list so I felt it wasn't necessary to electro the Tippmann.
Plus there is something very primal about a fully mech gun that tears.

im not sure if i dreampt this up, but wouldnt the air in the oven be toxic after baking something painted in the oven?? just curious! thats alot of coats... i was only planning on doing 2 light coats and then one final coat to get the shimmer on it cuz my paint is got sprinkles .
also with that toxic air thing, would it be safe to cook food in the oven after this whole procedure? i might just buy like a $10 toaster oven and do this instead....

Pish, toxic, those fumes smelled happy to me.
But seriously, my house is a machine/paint shop first, living quarters next.

oh, well since i still live with my parents i would guess it probably wouldnt be smart. i love happy fumes. my brother used car paint on his prolite, but im not sure if its cuz the metal wasnt right? too many layers or just didnt bake it, cuz that was like 2 months ago and u can still dig ur nail into it. its hard, but u can.

Yeah, originally I wasn't going to bake it, but when you bake it it changes the molecular lattice of the paint and makes it really hard.
Baking it is the trick.

Oh yeah, just did some trigger tests.
Trigger pull is now 6 ounces over 1.5 mm at the longest point. I believe I can drop the trigger weight down even more if I switch out the sear spring.

Hey Evil, any idea on the pull weight of your trigger?
I had mine down around 2 ounces but it was far too unreliable for my taste. It would get some viscious bounce, and that is a scary thing on a mechanical gun.

to tell you the truth i have no idea lol, bounce is highly possible since mechanical blow backs have huge amount of kick.
if you ask FoShizzle about his A-5 that i modded up, that thing rips hella fast.
my 98 probally has a 4-3 oz pull its pretty amazing you can like way the marker and it will shoot, havent had it bounce though lol that would be the day. i would if i can bounce it, right away go out and buy a $2000 digital camera make a movie and sell DVDs the bouncing mechanial. muahhahh. lol "i just woke up, you can blame me for my stupidity"

Yeah, a bouncing mech is quite interesting. I would tear on the trigger for a bit, take my hand off the grip and it would keep firing for another second longer. Very strange, because I could then pull the trigger once and it would single shot. It was basically like an R/T but with no R/T.

i need another 98, since i destroyed mine and am only working on my bros...
its kinda sad... i dont want to talk about it lol
i really need a milling drill press. im thinking about re-doing the hammer, sear, and the triggers mechanical it self, so its more adjustible but will probally be a pain to adjust but when you get to that point where its perfect. im thinking WOW
i really want another 98

I finally found the picture I was looking for that illustrates why there is the extra piece of overlapping aluminum on the body.
It's my modified quick strip design that isn't as visible when the whole deal is all together. It basically takes the two sections of the one half and locks them back together when screwed together.

Most unique 98 ever. Must be a hell of a lot lighter than a stock 98. God I love that milling! I'd just maybe airbrush those fittings black or something. Be careful doing it though heh heh...

It's not about light springs, it's about how fast you can get the sear to disengauge.

Lemme guess. All those brass fittings on the outside are there because tippmanns can't just take a regulator to be low pressure. Other than that i would be impressed with your Sear work. I don't even know how you did that.
oh and BTW you prolly know this but it bounces cause the depressed spot on the hammer that catches on the lug is just "flirting" with the sear. Over time it'll just fire full auto and all will be lost. Just a heads-up
