14. The 16 will have the same effect as the 14, but is just longer and might get in the way. also personal preference.

im not positive  but im pretty sure its becuz u need more gas to get the same volecty(sp) cuz its longer n more friction...something along those lines

16" has quite a few more advantages over much shorter barrels like 12" and under...for any style of play. At least for me. It may not be the same, but for me it works better.

[/Q it takes more gast to push somthing through a longer barrel, since it is longer the more gase has to go into it to push  thats why the whisper barrel (like i have,it suks dont get it) downgrades the power since the co2 leaves th holes the gun must push out more air so the ball can get through at the velocity it is at. i just taped up the holes it is really loud but it can get more power. but anywase i heard their is no differince beetween the lengthes of 14-16 so go for 14.

A stock tippmann will use the same amount of gas on every single shot. Doesn't matter what velocity. 1 FPS or 600 FPS it will use the same amount of gas.

a paintball gun puts out the same ammount of gas each shot. its not a gun that know how long your barrel is and remember to put out more gas. saying it puts out more gas because of a longer barrel just shows your ignorance. I thought some people were smarter than this but i guess not.

Yes a STOCK Tippmann will use the same amount of gas for each shot, because it uses a flow restricter as its means of velocity adjustment. Basically that means that the stock velocity adjuster slows down the escaping gas from the valve so not as much of it can get to a certain spot at a time.

So yes, no matter what length barrel you have on a STOCK Tippmann will not effect gas consumption. You will have to turn you velocity adjustment up a bit for longer barrels but you will always be using the same amount of gas, just allowing more of it to get to the barrel at a time.

However if you have a Tippmann that has a rear velocity adjuster or if you use a secondary reg to adjust your velocity, then the case changes.

Those two methods adjust velocity by adjusting the air flow to the valve, not from it like in the STOCK system.

This means that no longer are you restricting the air flow to the barrel. You want the air flowing at its full capacity to avoid pressure drops and the likes. That means that you are either changing how long the valve remains open to adjust velocity or how much pressure comes out of the valve to adjust velocity. Now with a longer barrel there is the chance of increased friction and pressure drops towards the end of it. That would mean that you need to either open the valve for longer to let more air out, or up the pressure to let more air through.

However all this talk about 16" barrels wasting more air than 14" barrels is all bs. I don't know where it started or who made it up but its basically all hooey unless you have a very poorly finished or designed barrel. A well designed barrel will have a very smooth and pretty friction free inner hone as well as a stepped design (the back of the barrel is smaller bored than the front for better air seal upon air release and less friction down the barrel).

This basically means that there will be a indistinguishable difference in air consumption between different length barrels on the same gun at the same air pressure and valve dwell.

Now if you had a 36" barrel, the story would change. but the difference between a 14" and a 16" isn't anything to worry about.

14", 16 is gets caught on brush real easy.  got a 16" on the sp shocker but the lenght of the gun w/o the barrel is a lot shorter than a tippmann.
