I have created my own team, I am trying to make a crose betwing a speedball and woodsball gun for my team mates. So far im leaning to the Model 98 b/c I can get as many as I need for a rely good deal, my quastion is. How does the Model 98 stack up in speed ball and upgrades? |

well sorry to say but tippmann is not the best gun when it comes to speedball. they are a bit slow and heavy, but dont get me wrong they will work fine in speed ball if you dont mind they weight (perfect for woodsballs) the model 98 isnt the best choice however, the 98custom would be a much better gun if you want to upgrade it alot and play speedball, in my own opinion of corse. ------------- http://img204.imageshack.us/my.php?image=260991706090alb8rs.jpg">

You could probably reduce the weight by milling out some of the metal in the grip, the rear sight, the sight rail (and if you don't use an expansion or LPK) and grinding off the front grip. As for milling off any other metal, check out the Gallery forum to look at other 98s to see who has milled off parts of their markers and then PM (private messenger) them to see who they had do it for them.

Tisk Tisk people, The 98 custom can make an eccelent speedball gun without milling the crap out of it or putting kagilians of dollars of upgrades into it. Just the other day, there was a guy at my feild with a completley stock model 98, and he was beating the crap out of a guy with an impy repetedly.He was giving me a very hard time dealing with him too, considering I was using a freinds $500+ gun. All you really need is an aftermarket barrel, an electronic hopper, and mabey reposition your air tank if you like. Even some of those things can be delt without.
The most important upgrade you can get is practice. Get your gun to the way you like it(this doesent have to be an expensive thing) and then get used to it. Pracice a lot! Good luck and have a nice day |

A Upgraded 98 can play some speedball but if your a serouis sb player i recommed selling it and saving up for a better sb gun. good luck have fun.  Mike.-------------

I am with Pezman on this one . The 98C with a few upgrades CAN be an unbeatable speedball gun . The biggest part of any speedball game , is the Players SKILL level !! I see guys with 1000 dollar guns get Thrashed all the time , by players with PUMPS !! why , surely not anything but skill ,, whatever you get for your team , get good with it . 98C's and to a lesser degree (only slightly less )M98's are upgradeable enough to make a Real decent speedball gun/woodsball gun , Ya there are other guns out there that may have a higher RoF , but I would rather put out 10 BPS all day long without a snag , then have a gun put out 18-20 BPS that you gotta baby along or repair once or twice . well the 3 balls doesnt have to do with the gun ill take on bob long with any gun as long as he only has 3 balls and I have a full hopper and pods, but yeah tippmanns are not the greatest for speedball but if you get ups it will be alright I would suggest getting a different gun but if you do get a 98 I would get e-bolt, double trigger, nitro, barrel, and electric hopper like evo 2. -------------
