Subject: Recommendation for Beginner

Hi,

I am thinking of starting to paintball this fall. I have no experience with paintballs or markers or basically anything to do with paintball.

I would like a recomendation for:

  1. Marker
  2. Paint

Thank you

First i reccommed using the Search button. Then I reccommed a Tippmann if you play Woods, and a well alot of markers for speedball, some good cheap paint- Zap, Core. Nice paint- Draxxus, Venom, Marblerlizers.  Good luck, have fun.

Mike.

If you plan on playing woodsball then get the A-5. As far as good cheap paint try Bigball.

Some future upgrades listed in order of importance (not everyone may agree here but o well)

New Barrel - Flatline (woods) If you dont have the cash for a flatline then try a j-j ceramic 12 or 14 inch. Dont go past 14" tho. The longer the barrel the more air (co2) you will use, and longer does not mean more accurate.

Polish your internals! search here on the forums for polishing A-5 or 98c wichever you decide to buy.

X-chamber (expansion chamber) or Palmer Stabilizer (more $$) Both will keep any liquid co2 from entering your marker internals. Keeping liquid out of your marker will prolong the life of your gun. I suggest saving up for the palmer stabilizer becasue it is the best of both worlds. It keeps the liquid out and it also keeps your shots more consistant as far as fps (feet per second)

Now for the really fun stuff!

Responce Trigger or E-grip. Read up on both here at the Tippmann site. If you plan on playing speedball tournements the Responce Tirgger (R/T) is not allowed because it is capable of shooting more than 1 shot per trigger pull. If you DO plan on playing tourny's then get the E-grip.

Once you get all that then you should get a pod holder (the belt that pple wear around theyre wastes that holds painballs.

Buy a Thermal Mask, cheapest Ive seen them for is I think around 35.00 but remember you get what you pay for. You will be happy with a higher end mask. (I need to get one myself)

Another nifty upgrade is macro line. It is a plastic line that replaces the stock steel braided line. It is easy to work with and replace. It also lessens the wheight of your marker a tad. (lighter is better)

Anyways, have fun. Ask questions here if you dont know the answers. Most of the people here are very helpfull and there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers.

If you need any newbie advice private message me anytime.

If you have never played paintball before, it would probably be better to go to a field, rent a marker (usually either a 98 Custom or an Ikon Z) and give them a try. Usually other players will let you shoot a few rounds through their markers if you ask really nicely and inform them that you are going to be purchasing a marker in the near future. Talk to the owner/manager of your local field(s) and see what markers they recommend. Checkout www.pbreview.com and see that the recommendations are on the various markers that people recommend to you. Above all, get yourself a good set of goggles. I personally use the V-force. They are inexpensive but they are well made and a breeze to take care of.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

To go against the grain:

I recommend a Spyder Pilot, its fast, light, looks good, and great for both Speedball and Woodsball.

Tippmanns are great, but I would only use 'em for Woodsball, IMO.

I would agree with the Tippmann 98! Very forgiving marker for an entry level marker. Also! Dont forget about a good, comfortable mask!!! Spend the extra $ and get a awesome comfy, safe mask! Safety is #1!!!

B4 buying anything id highly recommend playing first.

Some people after gettin lit up once never wanna go back, so in order to not waste money i recommend going once and renting.

If you feel the need to buy something b4 going, Id highly recommend a thermal mask.

A day of foggin up with rentals will make paintball less fun than even a messing up rental gun

Setup
a-5, LPK, Macroline,
14 Lapco Bigshot,
Dead on Drop,
Palmers Stab,
double trig, 68CI Crossfire 4500
Backup:

Well I don't think that if jus getting a hopper unloaded on me will stop me. I'm not too worried about getting shot.. since i have before  it doesn't hurt at all. But I will consider you opinion on playing some before buying.

Gun:

Start out with a Brass Eagle pump. Seriously!! You should first see if you are really gonna like this first so you dont spend 175 on a Tippmann. If you become attached to the sport, then buy a 98 Custom. Trust me, this is what I did.

Paint:

Doesent really matter, but make sure its not cheap crappy paint.
