I think the most over-rated band would have to be 311. They aren't that good, but lots of people whorship them. The next over-rated band would have to be AC/DC. What do you guys think. ------------- YONK~!~ |

The only reason that i started listening to AC/DC was the quitar player with his "hard rock sieziers". I like a few of thier songs. I know she is not a band, but i think Brittany Spears is THE MOST over-rated person in the industry. She doesn't even sing her songs for real. When she performs, it is a recording and she mouths it. I like 311's remake of "The Love Song", but it just isn't the same as when The Cure sang it.^^ Nirvana would have been a great band, but Kurt had major problems. I think that radio head was over-rated, but i never was into thier type of songs, so i guess that makes it different. What the hell is 311, they can't be over rated because I never heard of them. AC/DC is not over rated, most people nowadays listen to Hipidy Hop and don't care about AC/DC. Nirvana is deffintly over rated, cause it makes my ears bleed. -------------

Opinions are the funniest things on earth...
It's funny how to one person a band is over rated but to another they are absolutely awesome. Personally, I think AC/DC trocks it up pretty hardcore. I'm not really into 311's genre, so I have no comments there. Nirvana IMO was a great band. Not THE BEST OGM!!!!, but they were good. I'm listening to them right now :). Anywho, thats my 2 cents. |

I dont really see how you can over rate music, if the band has a big following, and is in the rock and roll hall of fame SUCH AS ACDC then you cant really prove that they are overated. I find it funny that now adays people my age (16) say that oldies sucks, well aparently it is liked more than the newer music sense you hear more oldies than new music on the radio. just something to think about -------------

Nirvana, even though one of my favorite bands, is the most over-rated band in history... They are credited with so much more than they actually did... Pearl Jam accomplished 10x more musically then they ever did and get much less credit...
AC/DC is up there too... I like them, but I don't understand how people can listen to them religiously... And Linkin Park isn't over-rated... They just suck... ------------- Shaft!

Last time I checked, there was no song anywere near that. Don't be ignorant, if you have an opinion, then state a good reason (even "just because i don't like them would be better than that). IMO Linkin Park is over-rated, but only buy the Pop community. They are a great band, with great songs, and acctualy sound good live (plus, they are this thing called "original" in the way they sound compaired to other bands). I think that New Found Glory is good, he acctualy sings like the way he sounds. Blink 182 may have some Pop songs that people don't like, but if you have any sense of humor, then you should like the unreleased songs. The same goes for Linkin Park (except not the funny part) and New Found Glory. I think H.I.M is terribly over-rated by the metal community. He is a **edited** and seriously sucks. There is honestly nothing appealing about Linkin Park to me... They have horrid lyrics to synthetic sounds... I don't see the need for bands now a days to just come out and talk explicitly about how their lives suck and want to kill themselves while screaming into a mic... Not are they just over-rated, they are also a bad band... They haven't accomplished anything as a band besides putting bad lyrics to mediocre music...
My main complaint with them is their lyrics... Bands in the older days (I mean BC to pre-1997) had just as much angst (probably more and probably for better reasons too) as Linkin Park did or does... However most of the good band's lyrics were not as explicit as Linkin Park's and actually took some emotional insight to write down on paper... Screaming your heart out into a mic talking about crap in such a direct way with a mixer in the back takes 0 skill... This goes for all newer bands (not that they all do this, but a lot)... Rock and Roll is on its death bed because of this new scene... I commend them for making millions though... ------------- Shaft!

linkin park is not overrated...they are overplayed. Once radio and mtv gets ahold of it they play it every 5 minutes..and mtv uses it as their one and only way to reach out to the rock scene other than crappy 311/maroon 5 junk....
If were going to say linkin park is overrated for screaming.... why cant we go ahead and say all heavy metal is over rated..or, 90% of the rock genre for that matter..becuse most rock bands scream at some point. anyways....Rap=most overrated genre ever. |

I dunno how music can really be overrated.. overplayed ya, but its over played because people with no senseable taste in music like it. Unfortunately that is most people. Alot of people stick with 1 genre of music, find a band they like, and support em. I have almost 400 different artist I listen to on my comp, everything ranging from Regea to the hardest rock it makes your ears bleed. Theres gotta be diversity IMO.. Tho Emo kids are funny, and should get laid. Most of what I listen to tho, no one else is familiar with. The Radio is teh sux0rz.. Right now.. Judas Priest-Jugulator-Blood Stained Oldish and very good IMO |

An overrated band is a bunch of people saying they are great but they never heard them. Like Nirvana I thought it wasn't bad since many of my freinds liked them, but I listened to it and I thougt that my ear can exept more than 2 sounds. -------------

Nice to see someone else realizes that Slipknot is all hype, and they aren't even all that heavy. I would have to say that rap is the most overrated, all the posing high school students think it is the greatest thing in the world when infact its one of the most talentless genres of music (do I dare call it this?). -------------

OkOkOk Let me address some issues here first. I dont think that being "over-rated" necessarily means "Bad". Most of the bands that I think are "Over-Rated" are not bad bands, they wrote good music and were (in some cases) good musicians im sure, they just get more CREDIT than what they probobly should get,
1. Nirvana. Personally I dont think that it was Nirvana that cause the change from air-rock to alternative/grunge. Sure, they may have brought the scene to the masses, but if they didnt come along I think that the industry would have gotten another north-west grunge band and made it famous. There are alot more and better grunge/alternative bands from that time that were before Nirvana, they just didnt get picked by the Orwell-like machine that is the record industry. 2. Metallica. I dont like people that say "OMGAWWD METALLIKA ROCKS TEH SOCKS TEH R TEH BEESSST METAL BAND EVERZ", Then you ask them to name another metal band and they give you a blank stare. Are they awsome? Hell yeah. Can they play great? Hell yeah. Are they the best metal act out there? Not really. 3. ACDC. Take what I just said up there, and change Metallica to AC/DC, and Metal to Hard/Classic rock.

led zepplin is definatly the most over rated band.... sure they make
good music and all.. but they are way over rated.... and for people in
this thread, i dont think the point of this thread is 'what music don't
you like' ,over rated doesn't mean that.....

no one can say a band is overated. Everyone has their own opinion about music. Someone that doesnt like rap doesnt like rap. what makes you think they will like puff daddy. they probably have never heard his music. you get the idea. -------------

nirvana is the most over rated band. kirk kobane didnt do **edited**. he wasnt a musical genius, he wasnt a good guitar player, and he wasnt a good song writer. he was a piece of **edited** in the road. he sucks, nirvana sucks, and grunge sucks
You base this on what? Please tell me its something other then your opinion becsue if thats what your baseing it on your argument is irrelavent. |

More bands were part of the whole grunge movement and don't get enough credit for it... Pearl Jam accomplished 10x more musically then Nirvana (even during that time... you can say what you want, but Ten puts Nevermind to shame musically)... Both of those bands were the major figures... Others like Soundgarden, Busch, etc should get more too... As far as Cobain being a great guitarist, he wasn't and in no way deserved to be high up on Rolling Stone's "Greatest Guitarists" list... As a lyricist, he was one of the best, but as a guitarist, Mike McCready mops the floor with him... I love that whole era... I'll say it again, Nirvana is one of my favorite bands, but is incredibly over-rated... ------------- Shaft!
