Can't. A paintball traveling at 280 feet per second has the same trajectory no matter what marker it's shot out of.
However
A flatline barrel creates backspin on the paintball adding aerodynamics that keep it afloat longer.
To answer your question, get a flatline.

i beg to differ, on the webdogradio.us video, one of them has to do
with range. almost every marker shot the same except 2 markers,
which were both pump i believe but im not sure if they were pump or
semi.
anyway the only way to increase distance with a reasonable fps is the flatline barrel

The only way to increase range with your 98 Custom is the flatline. You may get some distance by turning your velocity up but the limit on most fields is 280 Feet per second. Since a paintball is generally a spherical object, it does not fly through the air very well. It creates a lot of turbulence in the air around the ball slowing it down. With the flatline after the ball leaves the chamber it goes into a sudden upward path at around 200 mph. After it leaves the barrel it begins to spin backward creating "lift" affect much like the way an airplane takes off. Now that the paintball has this "lift" it will travel longer, increasing the range. Hope it helps.

ok four people telling me to get a flatline doesn't help
the problem is my gun is being out performed by cheaper guns. mainly piranhas and brass eagles. and the hammer( a old pump) people are nailing me when i cant hit them. all these guns are stock.

So try a Lapco Bigshot then. The reason why four people told you to get a Flatline is that changing your barrel is the only option. If you have a stock barrel on your Tippmann you can try polishing the inside. There is a howo on http://www.model98.net - http://www.model98.net
Edit:
Hmm the barrel polishing information is no longer there. Well I am sure you can do a google search and find some tips to polishing your stock barrel.

get a flatline. it is the only way to get more range. if you want accuracy and not more range then get the lapco bigshot.

i have my velocity all the way up. i'm not sure i'm reaching 150ft. i bought my gun refurbished not new so i think there is somthing wrong with it. it also tends to double shoot. it is stock except for a armson steath barrel.

What do you mean you have the velocity all the way up, like over 300 fps?!?!? If so, you should be kicked out of all paintball arenas.

Tippmann's have been known to have a max velocity of 350 fps and many times up to 400 fps. That is just plain dangerous. Turn it down!

Well i give him the benifit of the doubt that he is test firing it
where no one can get hurt, but if you seriously have it all the way up
and arent gettin anything then there has got to be something wrong with
it internals or just a leak

- turn it down to 280 fps so you don't shatter a goggle only rated to 300 fps. Shooting hot is stupid and dangerous.
- change your barrel to something like a J&J or a Progressive or a high-end barrel like a Boomy or even a kit. Stock Spyder barrels are the pits and in this, I have experience. I have had great success with J&J's and Progressives.
- paint to bore match your barrel. Getting cheap paint for the sake of shooting it is just stupid...wasteful and problematic. If the barrel is .689 and you are shooting .685 or smaller...most of the air you need for distance is going out the barrel around the ball.
- tune your marker (if it can be). I just got my 98 and haven't really experimented with it yet.
- depending on the length of your current barrel, perhaps a 12" or 14" might help it. You'll have to increase the gas flow but it may be enough to stabilize the ball in barrel so that you get a better distance (with a size-matched paint)

There are no googles only rated to 300 fps that I am aware of. I think they have to be tested at 400 or 500 fps.
If you don't want to get a flatline, get an apex.

Flatline. You could also try aiming at a 45 degree angle, and lob the shots. maby that's what your friends are doing.

believe i'm not going to shatter goggles. Mine gun is shooting TOO WEAK, now unless a miricale happens and the gun shoots faster without me changing anything then noone needs to worry, but me. I do test shoot my gun before play, like any smart person.

Ares,
Have you ever fired your marker over a chronograph to determine how
fast the paintballs are actually leaving the muzzle at. If not,
most of these suggestions aren't really applicable. You need to
make sure the marker is working correctly before you start buying
aftermarket parts. If it is working correctly and you're shooting
at 280-300 fps and everyone is else is still out-ranging you, then they
are probably shooting at unsafe velocities.
If you discover you're not getting adequate velocity, try some of the following.
- Test your marker with a recently filled tank
- Borrow someone elses tank and chrono your marker again, just in case there is a problem with your tank
- Replace the bolt and hammer o-rings
- Clean and oil the internal parts while doing the above
- Get an aftermarket spring kit and try a stronger drive spring

Pull your gun apart and lube every moving part. I was having the same problem you were. Everyone was shooting a bit better than me, and doing this worked for me. You can also put a little bit of lube inside your barrel and spred it with a squeege.

It may be double firing because of the ball latch and if ur not getting much velocity check your tank to see if it has full pressure and get teh power tube looked at

you have to have your gun under 300fps because its dangerous having it any higher
