Okay, I have read other threads about snipers in paintball, and how people hate them, and think they are useless. I can clearly see how people would see this, if you are playing speedball, a sniper is absolutely useless, however, if you are playing woodsball, your sniper is your teams MVP. He is only an important member of the team if he has a good shot, he knows how to use camoflauge to his advantage, has the patience to wait it out to have a good clear shot at his target, and have the ability to move very slowly without being detected. If he doesn't, then you are right, he is useless. I passed my U.S. Army Sniper School at Fort Benning Georgia last fall. And now i have learned these important key aspects of being a good sniper. For example, when i wear my Ghillie Suit, that I was required to make for Sniper School, one is virtually impossible to locate until the second shot is fired (if one knows how to use a sniper web properly). Also, for paintball guns in particular, a 12 inch barrel that will put a backspin on the ball will help reach maximum effectiveness. I'm not saying you should be a sniper, all I'm trying to get out is that they shouldn't be underestimated on the frontline, or woodsball field. You might say, dude your in the Army so you are thinking in terms of accual combat. Well, yes, but these same rules apply to paintball as well. |

People who flame other people on this topic are idiots, the only reason they think sniper are unimportant is because in paintball they are not in a life or death situation, get them on the frontline and they will be happy as can be that they have a expert marksman giving them cover. But you are right, there are ignorant people who think they know everything about everything, and you will just have to blow that off because the bottom line is that snipers help, whether you like it or not. And you know what they say, "Snipers are the best shooters on the field...but they are also the most hated by the enemy." The people that flame other people over this topic probably have a problem with snipers because they have been beaten, I wont go into detail about my sniper detail in iraq, but in paintball, I once eliminated an entire time because i knew all the important aspects of being a sniper thanks to my instructor at sniper school. |

A sniper, by definition, is one who fires on his enemys from a position out of their range. This is about impossible, because (as stated earlier) all guns shoot the same, and even with the flatline, its almost impossible to shoot someone 150 feet away. Next, although the ghillie is great for some things, in sniping it is pointless. If your moving, the ghillie only works from a distence, and if your not, you need to keep extreamly still and have great disipline, something not many players have. And yes, I am a woodsballer, and yes, I have tried to be a sniper. | Durar, you say a Ghillie Shuit is pointless for sniping, how so for paintball, or sniping altogether, because if you mean sniping altogetehr i think you better research your facts a little bit because, a Ghillie Suit, is one of the most effective items a sniper can have in battle. If they were useless,why would every sniper school for American and British require that every students builds there own web. but hey what do i know, I'm just a real sniper, and you play paintball, I am sorry for disagreeing with your superior knowledge of the effectiveness of sniping. But i can see how you meant that all paintball guns will fire the same distance, the the whole 12 inch barrel, with a backspin, i was thinking of something else, sorry about that. |

First off its Darur, not Durar. Second off, read what I said. I did not say it was ineffective, I said it doesnt work in paintball because unlike the military, we are not taking shots from 500 + yards. At that distence, and probably closer, its harder to see a person moving in a ghillie. However, in paintball, you are going to have to be much closer to take a shot, and if you move, you will be seen. Firstly, if i wanted i could sit in a spot for an hour+ with a ghillie suit on and not move more than an inch and im 13. now compare me to an actual military sniper, you cant. the military sniper would beat me by ten miles. but if i can lay in a bunch of leaves and bugs without moving for an extended period of time, i can only imagine what someone trained in this field could do. wanna see for yourself, come to PA and ill prove you wrong. secondly, a sniper is someone who fires upon an enemy from a concealed position. in the definition of a sniper it no where states that he/she is from afar. ------------- |

| Darur, you think that being a sniper requires no skill, well you need to go and look up sniper because it requires more skill than you can ever have, its a lot more than "sittin in a ghillie suit lighting people up" and "its nothing other than pulling a trigger, you are excersizing no skill" if you went up and said that to one of our faces we would probably laugh you off the face of this earth, and damn i didnt mean for a long out conversation, this was just to be informative, but there are those ignorant people that have to start an arguement about everything, you know what please stop responding to this thread, it was supposed to prove a point, and a bunch of idiots like darur had to turn it into an arguement, so just do everyone a favor and stop responding, let this thread die. |

Good freakin lord. You sound more like a lawyer then a "sniper". I get the feeling you could make the bible sound like a testament to Satan if you wanted to. I was describing a camper, one who sits in a bush all day and lights up people. A real marine sniper does have skill, but all "snipers" in paintball are newbs too scared to go to the front. If you wish to call me an idiot, go ahead, but what makes me an idiot? Have you proven any of my points wrong? ummmm, no. Notice how this army snipp-re (heh) dood takes every thing someone else says and twists it around, so far, that its original meaning is distorted? Then when someone actually comes up with a valid counter-claim/counter-argument he more or less subtley changes what he originally said through creative wording? Then if that didn't work he whips out the fact that he's an "army sniper" who obviously knows way more than us, beacuse he's "an army sniper"...

I know we want this to die, but I just read this, and wanted to add something. You say it takes alot more skill than that. Ok, staying still is easy, like it or not, but yes, accuracy takes skill. Think of it this way, I think it takes more skill for you to be able to have the guts to stick your head out while under fire, and be able to shoot back, accuratly, rather than lying off on the side. I think a player near the front has far more skill than the snipers, like it or not. They are both shooting the same style of gun, with the same ammunition, but the one in the front does it while moving, and under fire. Follow? |

I guess my name means I should defend this....Blah. Okay ladies, he didn't ever say anything about maximum RANGE, just maximum effectivness; stop tryin to assume the difference. When he mentiones patience i assume he is talking about the fact that you don't have to open up with 100 paintballs the second you see the person, and that you should wait for a shot you know you can get them with. If your out of position, then move into a better one. Anyone in woodsball knows that cammoflauge is effective and if utilized properly can help you. However if your a speed freak you just have to look flashy in your jersey and shoot real fast like. How do I know? I play both. I think that it really shouldn't be called sniping, just more of a paintball style recon.
And if ArmySniper does decide to reply, i think that if he listed basic info about his army career then we should all just leave him alone. Such as his rank, where he's stationed, what the correct MOS number is of what he does, what company he was in while in boot, and what company he rolls with now. I wont believe him until he scans in his picture (you know, that required yearly picture, you're required to be wearing your class-a's, in front of an american flag on a shined brass flag pole... yeah... that picture) then supply us with another picture of himself in civilian drab... gah... eh, here's my problem belt: I know the army is full of idiots *I probably think that because I want to joing the corps* but he needs to know what MOS stands for first. Supplying the proper number is the second hardest part. Don't blurt out any of those though, that would defeat the purpose. Second, the company he was with in boot can be screwed up. Yes. U.S. Army (Airborne) Special Forces Weapons Seargent... I think it takes 50 to 70 weeks of traning... depending on a few factors... mainly the class, the student, and the instructors... I think I added up all of the weeks of traning I'd need to get to an 18-Bravo-from basic to weapon seargent... It would take me 101 weeks of SOLID traning... But you have to remember, there will be off time between classes... (I'd have to wait for the start of the next class in order to join...) and that also isn't countin combat experiance (i want to at least see combat before I try for my 18-bravo...) long story short... This won't be easy, and odds are, I wont make it... but I'm going for it anyway... (I know that hoping that I'll even become airborne certified is aiming high... but hell, i can dream) ------------- Most importantly - People suck. |
