Word of advise, dont bring up snipers here.  Every and any thread about snipers turns into some form a flame war.

alright, thanks for the advice. but in all honesty, people can flame all they want. its not gonna stop snipers from playing. the first paintball games were very sniper like. they were played with 1 shot guns, and if you missed, you were pretty much done. none of that 200000000 rounds a minute crap. AND this has to do with Tippmann since the best sniper markers are the 98 and the A-5. its a good site either way

thanks A-5. And im not bashing speedball or anything like that either. in woods games, it wouldnt be as much fun without speedballers, and speedballers, you guys have to admit it wouldnt be as much fun with out people like us who snipe. its just as much a part of the game as shooting 30 bps non-stop at a bunker just to get that surge of testosterone. it takes more skill to snipe, its you vs. the enemy, if you lose you only have yourself to blame. it takes guts to go agains a whole team by yourself, in speedball, you have an entire team backing you up and watching your back. so think twice before anyone bashes snipers.

ROFL
and to A-5 and the rest fo you "pro-sniper fella's" i am officially swayed, there is snipers in paintball, and they are in NO form JUST N00BS who suck and sit in a bush while thier buddies are getting shot cuz they lack the skill to engage in a firefight and would rather be the last guy who doesnt fire a shot and just sits in a bush until the othe rteam gets bored. IN NO FORM. yea of course. a "sniper" is not a guy who just sits there and shoots a paintball gun fomr a conceiled position. any paintball player finds a conceiled postion and shoots. the diffrence is a good player will also be mobile. not just sit still for a half hour too scared to move. a "sniper" is a person who shoots a high powered rifle sevral hundreds and possible over a thousand yards at an enemy. your paintball gun shoots just as fast, far (unnles oyu have a flatline), and accurately as the next guy. you cant be in a firefight with a bunch of guys who have m-16's and snipe them WITH AN M-16!! ok i got a little carried away so ill end this here

easy, thanks for showing everyone how ignorant you really are. just so you know, you can snipe with a M-16. sniping has nothing to do with camping and being scared. it takes more balls to be alone in the bush against possibly overwelming odds then it does to charge a fort with guys backing you up. a good sniper is by himself or 1 other. thats all. we dont have guys with us that shoot 30 bps to cover our butts if we mess up, if we mess up.....thats all she wrote! we dont get a second shot, we get one shot, and if we miss we gotta get out of there. thats allt here is to it man, before you diss snipers, think bout what your saying. i could take you i promise, you wouldnt ever see me ,y ou are just like every other speedballer, extremely cocky/arrogant and VERY predictibal.

wow, you totally ddint say anythign in that whole post. you just danced around topics like a politician. the fact is te m-16 is an assault rifle. it is not a sniper rifle, you cannot "snipe" with a 5.56 bullet. getting one shot kills dosent make you a sniper. is you play woodsball on a home feild that you know and lay thier in a ghillie suit and punk speedballers wearing bright red, that dosent make you hot stuff. and the only thing youre proving is that you have no idea what any other game in paintball other that large feild woodsball is like. you dont think there is times on a speedball course where you only get one shot before he goes back in a bunker?
"takes balls to be alone in the bush against overwhelming odds?" dude its paintball. if you get tagged you get ttagged it dosent take balls to do anything. and im nt "dissing" snipers im saying your talking about "oh dude ill take oyu out and you wont even see me" and your saying speedballers are arrogant??? get a freaking reality check.
yea your real tough going out and shooting a guy form a bush, because hes so "predictable" do you not go out and find a nicce comfy bush, lay down in it, and shoot peopel? how are oyu not predictable in paintball, everyone does the same htings because they work. you dont see peopel running backwards holding their gun by the hopper.
so before you think your big time thing abotu what your saying, cuz the only ignorance is being demonstrated by the big league "sniper"

OK MR NolanSniper.........

A challenge.......The Tippmann World Challenge 18/19 September, Michigan, be there and PROVE to us what your are saying. Don't Talk the Talk, if you can NOT walk the Walk. I will be there, and each year I give a class on sniping, (being an actual trained sniper from a long time ago and far, far, away) and I hunt amateur wanna-be's for fun.

Been around since the days of pumps and $2.50 tubes of 10, and the game was no where near "sniping" agressive maneauver won the games, hiding and hopin made you the fool.

I still use 4oz bottles, 40rd hoppers and I am an INFANTRYMAN, utilizing the skills you all seem so facinated by as a norm.

Dream on son, read all the websites you want, so far I have not seen anyone even come close and I play scenario and rec ball all across the country. And at every field I issue the same challenge, me or me and any 4 troops against any professed "sniper", and I have had few takers and those who do usually end up humiliated, and I have witnesses, here on this forum and at the fields I play at.....
Ask about the "pony tail"...........

old soldiar.....im 16 and i live in texas, do you honestly think im gonna come up to michigan just so i can own you in front of all your buddys? no.....and you cant even call me a **edited** for that, im not gonna go across the country to prove a flame-war over something that apparently "doesnt exist." As for your hunting amateur-wannabes, think about what that is saying for yourself?.....and your bragging about it? i promise i could take you on, all i do is snipe in paintball. thats it, ive got it down to an art, anyone who tells you there is no-such thing is just flat out ignorant. paintballing is about having fun, if im having fun, then why flame me for it? if you have to get your much-needed testosterone from playing games where there is 200 rounds a second flying through the air, then fine. but i DO snipe, there IS such thing as a paintball sniper, and i WOULD own anyone on this site in a woodsball game.

ALSO!!!!!! sniping isnt about sitting in a bush and waiting, snipin is about moving into position somewhere you know the enemy will be either A) coming or B) is. So dont talk **edited** bout stuff you dont know.

NOTICE: "out to -OUR- field" . He has probably lived or played in that field for years, so he will know where everything is. NOTICE: "3 man speedball team". LOL! What kind of bragging is this? Anybody with basic woodsball skills can do that.

Seeing how a 16 year old "knows everything" as usual, it is not a front. I take young wanna-bes and teach them something. Every year and at every feild I play at I will sit and teach, not brag, and prove by example what it is I am teaching, based on expierience.

We do have troops who come from texas to TWC, if you are as good as you state then playing at another field should not be an issue, and you could actually take this as a chance to learn something.

Have all the fun you want, be whatever you want, I care little, but to be an effective player in this game, to limit yourself to a unproven "concept" against amateurs, on your home field, is well how do you put it "flat out ignorant".

Here is a test for ya.
1. Explain the merits of a cover cloth over a ghillie at short range?
2. Explain transition texture in preparation of a hide?
3. What are the 5 prerequisites for a shot?
4. Explain the differance between a field of fire and a fire lane?
5. A proper egress route consists of what three principle items?

And let us just see who knows what he is talking about, there Mr NolanSniper.

As for "owning" me or any of my LRRP members, you may want to rethink that, you have had maybe two years to "get it down to a science" there are those of us out here who have boots older than you, who have survived at the REAL game. BY the way I have the US Army MOS designator as a trained "sniper" so I would not put your 16 year old mind up against or state I do not know what I am talking about in the skill or the game.....well never mind, you are a child, with childish dreams...and do not have the "intestinal fortatude" anyway.......

I again challenge you to try and make TWC, I promise you will learn something, ask any member of this forum who have played for or against me, or has taken my class at TWC.

Oh, and stay in school, your mastery of the english language also needs some work........

ok here i go. there are such things as "snipers". but the following would have to be achieved.

1. Shoot around 5 Paintballs. (because in the military the real snipers literally if givin the go-ahead shoot at the most like 5 shot.

2. No movement. ( another military deal, real snipers don move anything but there eyes.)

3. Back up scout. (nearly all snipers have a scout somewhere in contact, the scouts cover the sniper and give him positions of enemys.)

4. Maximum Camoflauge. (Ghillie, Camo Gun, etc.)

5. Silencer (now in paintball you cant legally completely silence the gun, but u can make it quieter, but snipers are silenced.)

theres many more requirement to be a true sniper, but it is possible fer pball snipers, but its impossible to meet the requirements unless your an ex- veteran marine.

"Shoot at the most like 5 shots" And you would know how?

"No movement" I bet you have yelled at newbs for camping, is that any different?

"Back up scout" Whenever I play, we always set up teams, of usually 2 people, but the one I am usually in 3 because we're on the front line. I shoot a Pro/Carbine. I can shoot it pretty fast. I don't. Only time I shoot fast is when I am covereing someone. Why do you need a scout for cover, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a sniper?

"Max Camo" Face it, camoflauge isn't that helpful in paintball. I wear BDU pants and a military issue brown t-shirt. Thats all. I have people tell me to get a camo t-shirt or put on my BDU jacket because it's a break and easy to spot. Don't matter to me, I dont sit around in a bush, I am on the "frontline" engaged in "firefights".

"Silencer" My P/C qith a J&J Ceramic is by far the quietest fun of all my friends, but does that make me a sniper, hell no. The barrel i selcted is just quiet.

I love how you and Nolan contradict yourselves. You say a sniper needs a "silencer" or something equivalent, where as Nolan says you take a shot and move. Make up your minds. Whats a sniper do?

yes, 5 shots is how many a true sniper would get off in a paintball game, ask any veterean like my dad.

no movement as in no NOTICEABLE movement

and camo is required fer a asniper due to the very known fact that they CAN NOT BE SEEN

and i dont give a **edited** what your barrel is, real snipers' guns are silenced completely.

Is your dad a veteren of the army? or a Paintball veteren? Even if it is the army, was he a sniper? My dad was in the army and I'll be damned if he knows how many shots a sniper would use. Being in the army means jack. I don't believe in everything OS says, but I am behind him 100% on this.

No noticable movement eh? When I play we send 1 team to try and flank, or come up from the rear of the other team, and they move slowly, with no noticable movement. Does that make them snipers?

If you sit around in a bush, or in a position with grass/weeds for cover, the average person will not be seen, all they need is some dark green sweat pants and a green t-shirt. If anything, the ghillie makes an easier target. What you make your ghillie with won't always match what your playing in. And what if it's near winter, with no leaves? Camo is overrated. Don't take me out of context, it's useful, but overrated.

Real snipers, or paintball "snipers"? What did you remark about silencers have anything to do with paintball. You brought that off topic chief.

if you want to be a "sniper", be a "sniper". Have fun sitting around in a tree why everyone else is off having fun.

kthxbye

i nvr brought it off topic bro, i am making my point "There Can Be a Paintball Sniper, THEY JUST HAVE TO DO EXACTLY WHAT A REAL SNIPER WOULD DO." or else they aint "SNIPERS", get what im saying yet?

But how can they do what a real sniper would do? Regular soldiers don't exactly try to get noticed, and from what I understand, snipers are in concealed positions, away from battle. How can you do that with a paintball gun?

hahahaha. does anyone here even know how the word snipe came along? it refers to a bird that was once hunted. the bird is very small, and it takes an amazing shot to be able to hit it. so if you want to get all technical and stuff, a "sniper" is a good shot.....i am a good shot. i also use the training that the military uses to perfect the arts of camoflauge and conceilment, escape and evade, etc....yes, i know, your a good shot and that doenst make you a sniper. but what does make me a sniper is the fact that i have the capability to sit completely still for a whole game not firing one shot because doing that i will have learned a valuable lesson. if i dont want you to find me, you wont find me, if i dont want to get shot, i wont get shot. thats all there is to it. there is a reason why snipers are sent on assassination missions in scenario games, because we can materialize out of no-where, take the shot, and disapear as if we were simply smoke. think about it.

Get your boots the BRAVO SIERRA is getting deeper.....

Give it up KID, there are too many of us who actually play this game, know how to play the game, instead of hide and hope.......

Lets see the major scenario games I have Generaled where we have the "sniper" mission, as of the RofR game, NONE have been completed.....because NONE of the suppossed "paintball snipers" I send have a clue.....and believe me when I say this, neither do you.

Yet my OMHW LRRP guys I can send out on recons or ambush or interdiction missions and be almost guarenteed a success, any young pup with a ghillie I send out on the required "sniper" mission and check it off as a failure immediately, that is expierience, over concept........In the game the concept of "sniper" is USELESS ecept for the momentarily boosted ego of the KID, just before he gets lit up like a christmas tree, but "he shot someone".

SO live in the fantasy world you do, go sit and pretend you are a bush, reduce your teams EFFECTIVE PROJECTED COMBAT POWER by 1, but at least let your team leader know you will be out there useless, so he can plan accordingly.

And you still have not answered the 5 posted sniper questions Mr NolanSniper, the sniper expert, please enlighten us with your answers. Just for credibility....maybe

And here we go, where in Texas....maybe next year (2005)I will make a "special" trip, since mommy won't let you go play with the big boys. To teach from expierience is an art, to actually listen as the student, well 99% of the time that is the problem.

Who is flaming, it is you by admission, who started the flame war, by yourself casting the first stones. The "I will own anyone", "I am better than anyone", I know what I am doing, you all are stupid" etc.

My "fun" with the sniper subject is getting young troops to actually think on their responses.....and on their style of play, I do not give a rats 4th point of contact how you play, or what you think is funny, or how good you are. By stating you are better than everyone, withour merit, or witness is in itself a flame to all.

You can state whatever you wish, and play anyway you wish, till the time where someone here on the forums has seen you play and can verify your claims, then we as a whole will look at your posts differantly.

And as for the questions, anyone who has as you put it studied the skill should be able to answer the questions.

Again need to work on your language and typing skills too, attention to detail and knowledge is a prerequisite for jobs in the real world.

Have fun.....and grow up a tad.....maybe you will learn something............

No. Yes.

No. Five shots? More like one shot one less jeep. One shot two kills if there is more than two people thats a rule. (Military you can't take two people with one paintball.)

Silencer you don't HAVE to in because it can reduce accuracy and speed.

Camoflauge Depending on the environment there may be no need you may just need black.

No movement. How did they get there? How do they leave? What happens after they shoot and give away their position? They move and as for the third after the shoot they either move out go to cover then go out later for more shots or go to their exertion/ rally point.

Anyone that has been here for 10 days has heard that arguement. You aren't special, and the arguement doesn't work here because we aren't hunting, we are sniping.

And yes, you must be so special because you can sit and not move for a 20 minute game. Try doing it for 4 hours while up in a tree hunting deer. No, not shooting the deer at 300+ yards, I am talking real hunting. Bow and arrow, max effective range no further than 20 yards. The deer know you are there, they ALWAYS know, but they just can't find you. That is sitting still.

And you know what, props to real snipers. Because they are up against a TRAINED human eye.

Its sorta like showing up at basic training. You think you are in shape, but once you get there you realize you might as well have done nothing. You think you know all this sniper shindig, but now you should be realizing you know NOTHING.

I actually heard that black is too dark in many situations. A dark grey and dark green and dark brown mesh usually blends better. Solid colors stick out. Nothing in the environment is that big and solid.

1. Sorry, but i honestly dont understand what #1 is asking, rephrase it and ill be more than happy to.

2. With transition texture in making a hide, you must be sure that the area you are constructing the hide in matches what you are making the hide with. you must blend the hide in naturally with its surroundings, making sure it has the same textures, same look about it, and making sure that the textures all transist with each other.

3. The 5 pre-requisites of a shot are: H.A.B.I.T. which stands for Proper Holding, correct point of Aim, controlled Breathing, Instinctive body position, and gentle Trigger pull.

4. A field of fire, is the area in which a sniper has planned for targets to move into. They usually have a small card with pre-recorded ranges mapped out in thier field of fire giving them proper MOA for targets at certain landmarks. A fire lane however, is a lane in which an infantry man has staked out often times when holding a base, or sitting in a fox hole.

5. as for a proper egress route, teh 3 main principles i suppose are Concealment, having a second route, and making sure it isnt hte same route out as it was in.

now since you are the expert.....

1. explain MOA in your own words

2. explain the effects lighting has on estimating a targets distance.

3. explain what specifically ghillie suits were designed for

4. who created the first ghillie suits?

5. explain the vapor pressure at various temperatures. and what thier effects on a paintbalsl/bullets are.

Do you understand that you are trying to argue with someone who has real world sniper training/experience? Asking questions that you "borrowed" from an online manual that were just taken from a training manual does not legitimize your point nor make a sound rebuttal. There are no "snipers" in paintballs, the moon and the stars will never align to allow it, get over it!

I have a DD-214   do you?
I have a CIB do you?
I can read the same manuals and probably have the hardcopies in my basement somewhere.

This can turn inot a 20 question marathon if you wish, are you sure you want to go that route? Believe me son, I have more time in boots than you have alive, 1968-1992.

1. Minutes of Angle MOA...is in laymans terms a situation where your rifle shooting 5 shot groupings in a 1in circle at @100yards is considered shooting 1MOA. And so forth up the scale.

2. Lighting effects on range estimation...reflected or refracted light off various surfaces bends light wherein the straight line distance may seem varied by the optical illusion, hense effecting range estimation.

3 and 4 Ghillie suits were designed by Scottish Game Keepers in order to help conceal themselves while stalking poachers on hunting and farming grounds. Ghillie suits are specifically designed for mission terrain, there is no cover all ghillie suit. Light, color, texture, along with mission requirements makes ghillie suit design and application mission specific.

5. Vapor or gas pressure within a confined expansion tube such as a rifle or paintball barrel will follow the path of least resistance and expand against the ballistic object hense propelling it out the bore of the tube. Velocity of the projectile within the bore is effected by the volumn of gas on expansion or explosion, resistance within the bore, and ballistic coefficient of the object. Example- the liguid valved 68Special relies on the liquid CO2 expaning within the barrel upon expulsion from the valve, modern markers use the expansion chamber or large valve bodies to have expanded gas prior to valve release inot the barrel....

Oh and by the way, the cover cloth/drape is an old school sniping technique developed during a certian se east asian conflict where the ghillie was not practicable for movement in triple canopy, dense under foliage. (ie all the wait a minute vines, and self applying tent stakes (thorns)we had to deal with before you were born)

And before you ask...why I play...understand

Just as the old NFL player relives his youth and his "game" by playing and teaching his game to the next generation, I as an oldsoldier, do the same, teaching a little bit of my knowledge and expierience to the next generation. There is an ex forum member who was deployed to Afganistan, and he remmembered a bit of my old wisdom, in a situation, in a new war. Also I am a Infantry Skills Instructor (volunteer) for the Army National Guard in Nebraska and Iowa, teaching the basic combat skills of old to the next generation.

i think old soldier has the best point, you cant really snipe in paintball afterall, unless you are obsessed and spend your whole life doin sniper homework, but i have respect fer oldsoldier because my family has lots of veterans and one was training to be a sniper but had medical issues and retired

And why wouldn't Wungun 'stick up' for him? He knows that oldsoldier is right, and you are...not applying things to paintball properly.

Tippmann sells a sniper version 08Custom on their website, and you guys won't let people talk about it here on the forum? Somthings not right there. There would be no problem with people talking about snipers here if many of you just stopped copying other people and grew up.

I've been working on a "Sniper Show", biut it repeats a lot I've already said in that show.  Hmm...   Perhaps I should do it anyway.  Snipers don't exist in paintball, but sneaky little bastards do.

-Tyger

Do it. You need a video that just proves the point that there are no snipers in paintball.

I stayed up to about 2:30 last night watching webdogradio videos. ;)

Nolan, it doesn't matter how much you know about/don't know about snipers. This is about sniping in paintball. And from what you say, you sit in 1 place the whole game. Last time I checked, that was camping.

I suppose you could do "non-camp sniping" where you shoot down the people near you, advance a bit, shoot down a few more people, that kind of thing.

That would defeat what Nolan is saying constitutes him as a sniper.

That is not the point. When those of us that know what actual small unit or individual tactics are, and see someone badly mis-applying them, it is our duty to correct the mistake. Some of us are a little more "abrassive" in doing it then others, but that doesn't make lesson being taught incorrect.

The real problem comes from those that feel that the lessons are personal attacks and react accordingly. For those of you that fall into this category, next time sit back, take a deep breath, and actually read, you might scare yourself and actually learn something.

ohhh I agree. I don't think there is any type of "real" sniping in paintball. Yes there are some sniping tactics involved but not most ie: long range shooting etc. Yeah maybe you sneak around and get people out but thats not considered sniping in my book. Some people feel that if they can run around the woods in a green shirt that they are snipers. They are wrong. I believe someone here has already listed the "rules" or must do's for being a sniper so I won't re-list them, but the majority of that stuff is impossible in paintball.

Just a bit of input from my side.

First off, keep flaming to a minimum, or this thread goes bye bye. Capice?

Secondly, To Nolan. I too have studied the art of sniping. I hae countless books regaling the exploits snipers from the second world war to today. I have even more books on firearms, used by the said snipers, and even own a few. I've seen all the specials on the history channel, I've talked with USMC snipers, I've even indulged the Hollywood interpretations just for kicks.

I've been paintballing for about 6 years now. Woodsball more precisely. My 4 man team pretty much runs the rec circut around us. We get kids who start playing at 17, 18, and 19 years old who are obsessed with the concept of sniping, because they saw the same movies I did, and were enraptured by the romantic hollywood interpretations. These kids learn real quick that they can drape themselves in burlap all they like. They can lay as still as they want, and they can take as many wild shots as they like. Paintball is a close quarters game once the shooting starts. Twenty and thirty feet away, there's someone shooting at you. And he KNOWS where you are. If you aren't ready to get up and run, you're tagged, end of story.

The kids that we play with enter the game with little or no expierence calling themselves snipers, experts, pros, all sorts of things. When we take them out for their first few games, they learn a few lessons awfully quick.

A. It's more fun to pitch into the firefight than to wait in a bush somewhere and hope someone crosses your path on accident.

B. They still have a lot to learn. I know I still do.

C. They begin to see the folly of the hollywood pictures. The image they had of themselves crawling through the underbrush, cloaked by shadows and that handmade ghillie suit, stalking the unsuspecting prey, tagging them from some distance away, then slowly dissapearing into the woods from whence they came.....that's all crap.

I played at the West Point Scenario game last spring, and there was a Canadian fellow camped next to the OMHW guys, who graciously allowed my team to swell their ranks that day. He was all decked out in his ghillie suit, with a scope on his 98C, the works. When he came back, He had logged something like 4 tags, to my 7, and he had a large pink spot in the middle of his ghillie suit.

You'll learn friend, that the glory just isnt there. Paintball doesnt cater to it all that well. It just doesn't fit. It's sort of like calling yourself a frogman just because you can hold your breath for two minutes in the community pool.

I wish you good luck, and I really wish you'd stop trying to match wits with OldSoldier on this one. You're going to lose. The forum has more respect for this man because of what hes done and what he knows, than for almost any other member of this forum, all 23,000 of them. How can you really believe that you know the truth of the matter when at 16 years old, you aren't even old enough to enlist in anything but the boyscouts?

For the love of everything that bears the tippmann logo, quit now. All of you.

....I should just play the jerk, and lock this thread now that I've said my piece, but that's not entirely fair. I WILL however, can it as soon as I see that it's gone out of hand.

So keep it civil, or let it die. Those are your only two choices.

Lol well anyways I have talked to a USMC sniper and a former SEAL (he told me nothing) but it was fun and he played with my butterfly knife but anyways... talking to SEAL's are the worst they can't tell you anything and they won't...

I have read countless books and watched countless movies and things as well and I have learned a little but as far as I know I've had no luck in doing it in paintball Im just a good shot but the games with them are the some of the most fun somehow......

yawn. what ever guys. everyone here is taking this all so seriously. i admit, i started this thread to get play to my site. its not like i meant for this to turn into a flame war.

all im trying to say is, there ARE snipers in paintball, wether you believe it or not. you may not see us, you may not hear us bragging everygame about how we walked a sollid wall of paint onto a guy, but we DO exist, and saying we dont will accomplish nothing.

that is all there is to it. and as for oldsoldier, sorry for doubting you bro. but you know what? how can i not? this is the interent, for all anyone knows you could have been lying about all this stuff. youve proved to me at least that you know your crap, and im not arguing that anymore. but before you say i cant take on a 3 man team, or anything like that you should play with me. okay? just because you think it is farfetched that i like snipers, doenst mean that i dont have a few tricks up my sleeve that i got from snipers. you never know.

thats all, you can lock it if you want mods. im done.

Look all yalls argueing about snipers have gotten so old I'm thinking of never opening this forum again. People please stay away from the word snipers. I'm thinkin a lot of these people lost their parents to snipers the word makes them so upset. I'm guesing that everyone knows its a touchy subject here. So if someone even mentions it then don't argue with them. A word is only as important as the meaning WE give it not a bunch of proffesional snipers and dictionarys. The reason I'm so mad is from previous posts and I don't want a flame war growing again.

Yes I have posted this before and will keep posting this till yall give up fighting.
