...........Yes, the Freak is extremely good. It is a great barrel, especially with all the inserts.

I was going to get the Freak JR Barrel kit but from what I heard the inserts aren't that durable. I'd much rather go with a solid bore back like with the Evil Pipe Barrel kit. Both are sure to leave a hole in your wallet but I'd say you'll definitly get your moneys worth.

Oh being as this question is kind of related, how many of you find all the different bore size inserts/backs useful? I'm still in the process of deciding which barrel or barrel kit to get.

Not worth the money.
I have the full Freak for my angel and I don't think it's any better then the 1 piece barrels I have. Paint to barrel match is overrated.

Can you get all the inserts in lets say black or green or do they have to multicoloured?

You can get the Freak with stainless inserts now. Really creamy, I just got them myself. I can't even flex them. And the Freak is better than the Pipe because it is more versatile, has more bore sizes, and can be used on any gun out there with a simple back piece change.
The pipe is nice too, but it's a little more limiting. Probably a better buy if you don't want as many parts.

True, true. The stainless steel inserts are more
durable but I'd say if you're cautious and take care of
your things you shouldn't have a big problem with the
regular inserts bending. Sure the Freak has more
inserts but come on when are you really going to be
using .679, .682, .693, .695 bores?!?! Most paintball
makers today are making .689 balls. One thing that I
do like is what snakeeyes mentioned, the freak can
be used on any other gun just by buying the back
piece unlike the pipe which all the solid bore backs
come with your guns specific barrel thread. I'd
say just get the Freak back, what ever front (all
american, freak front (basically teardrop), and the
.689, .691 bore inserts.

Then again if you have the money and use small
paintballs get the specific bore size insert.

As for the necessity of all the Freak inserts, I actually have used 6 out of the 8 sizes before.
Plus, another bonus of the new stainless inserts is that they got rid of the useless .679 insert and replaced it with the larger and more useful .695 insert. I have actually had to use the .695 insert before.

How much do you play? I have one and probably wouldn't buy one again, unless I started playing more than a couple times a year again...

Yeah, I was good for me because I praticed once a month and played tournies with it.
If your just a rec player, go with something like a CP one piece, or a Lapco Bigshot or Snapshot if you want some versatility.
