My dad says he used to raise his gun to his shoulder (with the hopper just barely resting on top of it) and stand up in the middle of a firefight.  Without saying anything, (out, hit, etc.) he'd walk right past the opposing team.  Thinking he's out, they wouldn't shoot him, and he would get about ten feet past them and turn around and promptly shoot them all.  Is this legal at most fields?

It probably isnt legal now, you shouldn't risk it.

With the way people act act games, you might get kicked out if they complain.

It's called a "Dead Mans Walk" It is legal in most events unless otherwise stated. The only time it isn't legal is if you say you're out, hit or whatever or put in your barrel plug.

One thing I like to do is pick up all your pods and hold them in your arms...if the other team yells that you don't have your barrel plug in say you can't because your hands are full (which is true) walk by and then shoot.

The only time the other team gets mad is because they were gullable enough to let it happen. Usually they will light you up if you don't have your hand on your head or barrel plug in but it's a great move if you can get away with it.

Go for it.

Yep, the Dead Man's Walk used to be a popular trick a few years back. I don't think it's illegal, but few people would fall for it nowadays, especially since a plug in the barrel is a sure sign that the player is out.

I doubt it happens too often now. Too many people know about it now. As you said, it was published in a book, probably tales of the Dead Man's Walk all thru the internet as well.

Dead mans walk , do it if you want to have a dishonest victory you cant be proud of. And if you want everyoen to be gunning for you next game and not stop shooting you while you walk off the field.

If it's done right I don't think it's cheating, stand up and walk down the field with your gun at your side and muddering like you screwed up but not claiming to be out in anyway. I was reffing a game and a guy did it. He walked all the way to the other sides last stand-up and shot the whole team out. But the downside is it leads to overshooting/shooting players walking off the field.

It can be done several ways and my favorite is getting behind the entire team by going through them some how and start at the back and burn through but make sure you hit everyone and dont get hit by your own team. Never tried it though It only works in certain situations I guess.

Oh and it's called Dead man's walk because they walk instead of run and if you watch then you will notice there is something odd which is why if I ever need to try it I'd run.

may i ask how that is dishonest?

its not against any rules...maybe youve had that pulled on you before and you fell for it?

first off just yell at him if hes hit...if he doesnt say anything blast away at him.

Its not dishonest it would be dishonest if you yelled HIT and then proceeded to shoot them. But really is it illegal fo a player to hold his marker on his shoulder. If the other team doesn't shoot him it's there fault.

Its not cheating if you dont:

Put in your barrel plug
Call yourself out, or say hit or whatever terms you use
Or put your gun over your head (this one varies)

At the FOX 4 field in MA which I play at, they made a rule against the "Dead's Man Walk" because during one of their big games 1 person kept doing it and wiped out about half the opposing team.  Oddly enough they still lost.

I think that's the rule at the place I go to, put your gun over you head...  That tactic would work well at the Bunker Hill field.  If you start at the bottom of the hill, you have a severe tactical disadvantage: paintguns weren't made to shoot up very well, and the opposing team gets to rain paint on you, getting over the bunkers.  BUT, there is only one path that leads from the bottom of the hill to the 'out' station to the top; it would be, "obvious", taht you're going to the station, then you climb to the top and rain paint on the people in the middle.

A lot of tourney fields place the dead box on YOUR side of the field. This way if you are walking towards the opposite side of the field you're going in the wrong direction and will get ate up.

Like I said, it all depends on the field whether or not it's illegal. I have seen it used several times and usually it works. Most of the times I have seen it used was in tournies. I supposed that the majority of teams think that nobody would be stupid enough to use it now and don't pay attention. Their loss.

If you want to be sneaky and not look like you're doing it then do like I posted before...fill your arms with pods or whatever and when people see you with no barrel plug they will assume that you couldn't put it in because of the arm load of pods you have. Walk by and drop the pods and fire away. Usually you need to say something like "I hate getting shot in the head" or "foot" or whatever. You are not saying you were hit there just that you don't like getting hit there.

Try it with a bunch of buddies this weekend.

My guess, just from reading here, is that it's widely acknowledged as a tactic that "everyone" knows about, therefore "nobody" uses it, and they don't watch for it.  They get careless and unobservative and shot.  Just make it look convincing without it being cheating, and grabbing an ammo pod or two in your arms during a real game can make it look like you're packing up and your arms are too full to plug your barrel.

ahh good idea.. But it also works good right off the break..slide into a bunker and act like you where shot out going in. The confusion at the start of the game helps.

Oh yeah, the start is pretty hectic, however the #1 tactic at the Bunker Hill field mentioned above if you start at the top is to sneak down the main path past the 'dead' station and attack from slightly behind, and it takes a while for them to get set up there, so in the middle of the game would be good here too

I was thinking of doing this after my experience at a field about a week back, my group of friends were playing against 2 other guys in about their early 20's (I'm 16) and 4 guys in their 30's.

It was apparent after a few rounds that they were whipping their paint when they got shot, and in fact during one round of woodsball, my friend Matt shot this guy 3 times in the back, and the guy turned around and asked him to surrender.

Man, that was a bad experience, seeing how the people we played with couldn't follow the rules, but oh well...

I think it was because they just didn't want to get pwned out by a "bunch of kids."

try it sometime...it takes a lot of guts to stand up in a fire fight and start walking but IF it works it will be something to talk about.

btw...most likely after you try it once you probably won't be able to try it again with the same guys. Unless you get shot when you get up...then don't say a thing about what you were about to do, until you do it right.

i skipped the second page or so, so if im repeating what ppl have said already, then sorry.

Im a ref at a local field and a dead mans walk really isnt too controversial.

at our field, as soon as you put your barrel plug in, your out.  as soon as you say that your out, then your out.

A dead mans walk is when the person stands up as if they are out (legal) and just walks back to the dead box.  If they put in thier plug or yell that they are out, then thier out.  if dont dont do either of those, then they are still in and fair game.  they cant put thier plug in and walk behind the bad guys then take it out, thats not legal.  If a player sees someone trying a dead mans walk, and thier not sure if thier out or not, they should ask if he is out.  if he says yes, then hes out (duh) if hey says no or doesnt reply, hes fair game.  That doesnt mean light him up.

thats how i ref it.

Dead mans walk is legal, and is not cheap or unfair in any way.
