Anyone else miss the days when this forum had lots of interesting discussion about homemade mods?
Am i the absolute only person here who takes some amount of pleasure in
upgrading my gun MYSELF? I dont need to buy a drop-in kit that installs
in 2 minutes. Wheres the fun? Wheres the satisfaction in a job well
done? Wheres the bragging rights?
Smile, you have THE SAME CRAP AS EVERYONE ELSE. Your 98 with an LP kit isnt unique or personal, its the same as every other gun.
Even though model98.net has some totally dumb mods like the "blowback holes" at least they have the interest in tinkering.
Im starting to think tippmann spoiled all the new players with their drop-in stuff tailor made for the 12 year old with ADD.
People like thompsonshooter are the people i respect around here. That
actually build something awesome that shows you what can be done with
brains and the willingness to start drilling holes in things.
Ive learned so much about paintball and building things just playing
around with ideas to mod stuff. I guess nobody else has any interest in
bettering themself at the game we all play. Fine, whatever.
Maybe ive just been overestimating people again, until i saw some posts dissing on homemade jobs.

Enos.. what about me?
I spent an hour today doing horrendously bad sketches of: a better pistol design than my last one, an effective magazine-feed system that doesn't put pressure on the balls, and a few ideas on making a full-auto version of my 98C hair-trigger kit. I was bored.

Chill enos. Anyone dissing home-made mods is a tool of course, but trashing anyone who uses drop-in mods is just as bad. Some people just have more interest in playing than tinkering.

maybe some ppl like the drop in kits and easy mods like port hols and pen spring cuz they care more about performance then looks. and want to spend there time and money playing.

not everyone has the craftsmanship and skill to make parts for their gun, and alot of the tippy users ARE 12 year olds with ADD.

If it makes you feel any better, Enos. I figured out my return spring problem. It isn't exactly a home made mod, or a drop in. Just some delightfully bastardized version of both.

No, im just reminescing. I miss the days when people came up with awesome clever ways to remove the tippmann tank ping.
Its just more proof in my eyes that paintball is going steadily downhill.

well, i am lucky then, cockers dont have pinging
aslo, enos, i am not gonna mess with a $360 gun that the slightest thing will kill it, also, i wont mod anthing on my gun, its a total of $500 and i dont have the money to screw that up, the only i ave ever thought about modding is my pump. i might mod the tippy, but prob not

i agree with enos, like it dosent have to be a big mod and you can do things with only a wrench if you put your mind to it. just like the drop enos made. with a huge bolt and some nuts and washers. that isnt rocket science you just have to think of it.

uummm....i tried to make a trigger stop out of the tip of a plastic golf tee. I super glued it to my trigger frame, in hopes of reducing the trigger pull distance....then realized the dang thing had to reset after evry trigger pull, so i ripped it off of tossed it aside.
umm...I sanded the paint of my guns lettering..does that count?
O, and when i tried to put my X-chamber on, the stupid vert. adapter wouldnt fit in so I had to take a drill bit to the inside of my gun frame to a little more room.
I could have gotten a homemade drop, but it looked like crap, and was too shiny for my woodsball prefrences.

Im working on a new bolt system similar to the automag, but simpler and more gas efficient.
If only I could get a financial backer then I would have it done.
The bolt system will be uber fast too. Owell, I found a site emachines.com which you make the part in a CAD program, send it to them and they make it(at a cost of course).
My 98 bullpup should be done soon, All I need is a drill press and a band saw and the rest will be easy cooking. And I've got in the works a new spankin Punisher 98 Custom (all will be in awe).
But yeah the homemade mod era has come and past, but maybe the noobs of today will become the tinkerers of tomarrow.
