Well lately me and my family have been going through my late great great grandmother's stuff, all though she died a like 2 years ago, she was a pack rat.  Anyways, I was going through these old pictures, not 10 years old, like black and white 70+ year old pics.  And there is one of my Great Great Grandpa, with some black kid sitting on his lap, probably like 7 years old.  Now there are no black people in our family, there never has been.  So I was like "who is this kid?" and my Grandpa's like good question, so we went around asking everyone there, and no one knew, not even my Great Grandma knew, and she spent like every day with my Great x2 grandma.

Kinda wierd, so do any of you guys have any wierd family mysteries?

But what I don't get is why someone would just go to some photo place, and get their picture taken with a neighbor, and just that one neighbor...

Im confused. Your Great Great Grandmother just died? Was your great grandma like 12 when gave birth to your grandma and so on? I mean Great Great Grandma goes back to like the mid 1800's. And yes if thats true it probably was a slave.

judging by the time frame were looking at..it could be a slave..or..if the guys from up north where slavery was frowned on..he might have takin the kid in from the underground railroad..

How could your great great grandmother be alive in 1920 and just die 2 years ago? Wouldnt she be like 150 and wouldnt that have swept the news? I hope you just mean great grandmother and not great great.

Thanks to MS Calculator: 2002-1920=84

And 1920 isn't even the year she was born, I know she was like 97 or something like that, so it really isn't that long ago, and yes I did mean Great Great

I'm gonna say slave.

But if he took the time to take a picture with him... It could be someone he took in from the underground railroad.

Seriously, it's probably just a kid they took in or something. I really really doubt that it's a slave (as Darur said, slavery was abolished quite a bit before that picture was probably taken), but it could be an orphan kid or something.

Heh. Our culture is definitely educating its children well: Slavery is apparently alive and well in 1910.

The things these kids say.... (great, now I feel old at 16).
