It was on Modern Marvels: D-Day Tech. He was in the Navy and was one of the first people on Omaha Beach. His job was clearing beach obstacles to make it possible to land vehicles on the beach.
So, I thought that was pretty cool. *The guy's been dead for over 20 years now. He had Hodgkin's Disease. |

After V-E Day he served in the Pacific, and if I'm not mistaken, he was called back up during the Korean War.
My other grandpa, the one on my dad's side, served on the USS Iowa in WWII. |

That's awesome. He must have been a UDT, right? UDT is Underwater Demolition Team. They clear beaches for landing craft, like you said your Grandfather did. How did you know it was him when you saw him? Did they say his name or did you just recognize him? Anyways, that's pretty cool! |
