Trust me, none of you know how discrimination feels, and my country is an ally of the U.S. If I had any power, I'd do whatever I could to stop the stupid game. It's just adding to the hatred against Muslims and Arabs. People alrady hate the terrorists, why make it worse for everyone else? -------------

Trust me I know exactly what dicrimination feels like. I happen to be in a bi-racial relationship living in a place where in some cities the mixing of races inst exactly kosher. If I walk through a Filipino area of city with my lady, Oh boy, the sure dont like that. The Filipino men get very jealous that I am "stealing" their women, and say that she is too good for them. When she and I go through a mostly white part of the city, I hear all the time that I have an Asian fetish or that I am tainting the white race. I go to college Asian Culture classes, where the Professor will tell jokes about me, the only white guy, in Tagalog knowing I dont understand what they are saying.
I know exactly how discrimination feels, heck earlier in my life, I was stupid enough to dish some of it out myself. Sure, I think discrimination is wrong, but not letting someone name their business whatever they want is just as discriminatory. -------------

You may walk through a white area with your girl and the people may look at you funny, but they're not going to change their opinoins about Filipinos. I'm sorry about your professor and the other stuff, but this discrmination isn't just jokes or dirty looks. I've lost good friends after they found out that I don't believe in Jesus, and they're not even devout enough to go to church once a week. Though I'm caucasian, once a person knows I'm a Muslim, their opinions change forever. I've had a teacher who wouldn't give me a curve on tests when everyone else did. Also the english name of my country makes it bad enough for me. All my faults are a result of my nationality according to idiots who use Turkey as an insult. I'm sick of all the things they say, and they think I'm the one who's ignorent. I wish the people around here weren't so stupid anymore. -------------

I feel your pain too. But I have gone through worse than I have stated as well. Once you date outside the White race, you become a lesser member. But that isnt my point.
I am not looking for pity just as you arent either, but more of an awareness to others own beliefs being different then there own is okay. I agree with you to some extent that people are stupid and dont think straight but unfortunely not everyone is on the same page. Until everyone has an open mind, they really arent worth being your friend if they dump you over small issues. Just keep forging forward and hope for the best. -------------

But should we sink to their level? I dont have any problems with people because of thier skin or religion, and when people do, I find it stupid. I do not think that Americans should descriminate agaisnt Arabs, because we would be generalizing. Get your facts straight. You're saying that all Muslims and Arabs are like that. And also, there's this idea going around that all terrorists are Muslim radicals. Some people I've met think that Timothy McVeigh is a criminal but not a terrorist. It's crap like this that's influencing racism. Islam is a religion that preaches peace. You can't call the members of Al-Queda Islamic when what they're doing is completely against it. -------------

Obviously Tolgak knows what he's talking about... not that he needs me to agree with him to validate it... and we obviously have some kiddos here who've been raised on propaganda and hype rather than substance.
Because someone is Arabic does not make them Muslim (or vice versa) any more than being a white American makes someone Christian/Catholic. Do we assume all Italians in NY and NJ are somehow mob-connected? While I do agree on the runaway PC-ness of our nation, I can't condone crass and blind generalizations about an entire society of people. As for the flag-burning, capcadetspencer, we've got every race/color/creed in every nation, including our own, burning our flag. It's ignorance and bigotry to single out one group for doing something when there are many others doing the same thing; it's a double-standard. Now, back to the article at hand. This game is in bad taste: it is insulting to a nation largely populated by everyday people who just want to go to work and come home to their families in peace, much like our own nation. However, we also must realize that only the moronic few who take their worldviews from the media will be in any way influenced to more violent or discriminatory behavior by games such as these. As was mentioned earlier, many people play violent games that involve killing certain people(s), but few will actually take the game as a cue for how we should behave towards said people(s). Is it wrong to make a game like this? Yes. Do people of Middle Eastern descent have a right to be concerned? Probably. Is this game really going to create negative sentiments, if they weren't already there in the first place? Nope, sorry. Bigots are bigots, irregardless. |

Personally, I'd be more annoyed that the game puts paintball in a bad light..
While I know that people who are Muslim aren't all extremists, I also know that ignorant people will think of them that way. As a Christian, you wouldn't think I'd have a good perspective on this, but even Tolgak, probably my only Muslim friend that I'll ever have, implies that if you don't go to church you are not a good Christian. People will always, always, always hate other people. Realistically, short of committing a horrible act of genocide on total morons (probably not so horrible after all.. hmm...), this issue will never go away. Again, by the same points that make people think of Muslims and Arabs as turban-wearing terrorists, people will think of Christians as Bible-thumping hippies wearing tall pointy hats. I can name several people off the top of my head who think like this. And Tolgak, no I was not calling you ignorant.. Anyway, yes it's sad, but it was bound to happen anyway. Someone, somewhere would have done this. I believe I recall a similar "shoot Osama/shoot Saddam" attraction that was met with humor and good cheer not too long ago.. Bottom line on that story: They're not fostering hatred, they're profiting from the hate that was already there. I've played Whack the Iraq on the Wildwood boardwalk. I use an A-5 and
lit up some random guy wi h a big plastic shield, big helmet, mask,
rain coat and various other padding. No resemble to any arabs etc, its
only the name. Some chinese lady tried to sue a famous cheesesteak place here called **edited**s Steaks. Its called that becasue the guys nickname is **edited**. the **edited** is C.hinks -------------
