What is the fascination with achieving the absolute highest BPS out of a marker?  I have been playing paintball for a few years off and on and I still don’t get it. I  Wouldn’t trying to become a better marksman with your marker be the ideal goal? If you hit your target when you shoot at it; it saves paint and propellant.  If you can shoot 30 BPS yet can’t hit the broad side of a barn all your doing is wasting paint, propellant, and money. My 98 Custom can shoot about 11 BPS out of the box, I haven’t upgraded it yet, but if I practice with it I can shoot at the target and hit it without wasting paint, propellant and money.  Now granted I’ve mostly played woods and outlaw, conservation of ammo and hitting the target the first time are important to me the more I hit the target and get the opponent out with less paint means the less I have to carry with me. Or when playing a scenario where I am limited in the amount of ammo I can carry accuracy is paramount not who can spray the most paint. Besides in some of the scenario games I have played once you’re out of paint your as good as dead unless you find an ammo cache.

It's for speedball.  It's to keep the other people in their bunker so that you can move.  Sometimes it can take 20 BPS to keep someone in a bunker.  I can move when at least 10 BPS is coming at me.

It's all about people trying to show the size... of their wallet.

I just can't afford to shoot like that. Pump? Yes, please.

I love playing speedball with my phantom or PGP2K. It's mostly walk-ons so I can often get away with just the pistol. If it gets rough I get out the phantom. And if I'm just having a rough day all around, out comes the 98c.

Nope. I put an expansion chamber on it because I liked the grip of it. I also got a LapCo Bigshot barrel. I often play at the cave field so the terrain is a bit different than typical speedball. More room, larger teams. Outside at that field is more like speedball, and I end up playing with the 98 a bit more there when the other team starts camping the back corners.

Exactly.  You're almost guarenteed a hit if you're shooting 20 BPS in the general direction of something that you can see.

Right, so being effective would be shooting slow but accurate...

Think about if you can shoot fast and accurate. The advantage is yours.

Then you don't play against people who know what they are doing.  My local field hosts teams like Bad Company and the All Americans.  They are pro.  When you're playing against them, one shot is definetly not one kill.  You can dodge paintballs.  When you lean out of your bunker, yo can see them coming and have just enough time to get back in again.  If you move fast enough, you can make it to another bunker unless someone is playing really good angles.

I like being able to shoot a lot of paint and I'm still very accurate with one shot...If you've ever been in tournaments bps really does matter IMO...It's all personal preference, there's an argument from both sides with a good reason behind it and no one will ever win this fight...So how aboot everyone just drop it now before it turns into a 3535350 page flame fest

I've found high bps to come in handy when you are up against people that are hard to hit, that is, if you hit them just once, they tend to wipe.

In one of my first tournies, I was trading fire with a guy who had me pinned down. No matter what, I couldn't move. I would find gaps in  which I could send a few balls his way, but I was stuck.

Eventually, he finally hit me, which began our team's downward slide and loss.

After the game was over, a few of the spectators said they saw me hit this guy in the goggles, but he quickly wiped off the paint and kept firing at me. Unfortunately the ref was paying more attention to me than to the other guy.

Since then, I try to back up my shots, to hit whoever I'm shooting at as many times as I can.
