Um, welcome to the forum.

I wouldnt do anything to your gun just yet.  Play with it stock for about a month, then buy a barrel that suits your style of play and an expansion chamber.  From there get upgrades as you need them to fit your play.

Dont bother with the Tippmann "sniper" barrels, they are just longer stock barrels.

Not much else i can tell you, your question isnt very specific.

Bingo, and while we are on the topic of "snipers", run a search on the topic and read a few of the threads.  There are no snipers, plan to help your team by being up there with them rather than sitting back.

I recommend getting a 16 oz. tank and a electronic hopper before a barrel.

the reason being, if you buy a good barrel and chop because you dont have a electric hopper, the good barrel becomes a automatic curving barrel. and a larger c02 tank always is better.

No, dont try and be a sniper, period.

If you want to help your team, stay right up there with them from the beggining.  Dont stay behind to watch their backs, move up at the front of the pack.

all you really need is the a new barrel (would help a lot). for woodsball i would just keep it as cheap as possible. play smart and think before you move. most important, PLAY SAFE!!!

I'd go for a flatline. If you want to get an expansion chamber I would consider a regulator instead. Maybee a stock, I like them but a lot of people dont. Also the stock sights are usually crap. But practice w/ them and then get a point sight if you want it. I dont like firepower upgrades or double triggers, but some people like them so try out the stock trigger and then see if you want a double later. You relly need togetused to your gun before upgading.

Tips? Don't fly kites near powerlines.

Tips for your 98 Custom? Replace the barrel as soon as you get the money.

I picked up a 98c with flatline barrel and collapsible carbine stock today- I love it. The lady at the army surplus threw in a $20 red dot sight for free.

One problem I found when shopping for the gun a month or two ago. When you put a stock on it, it drops the gun in your shoulder as opposed to having a CO2 tank as a stock. You won't be able to us the stock sights without injuring your neck. The flatline raises the sight picture about an inch, and the red dot is an inch and a half above that, so if you get a stock, you'll need 2.5" of vertical relief for the sights. As I said, a flatline and red dot sight shoudl be fine, without any spacers. Make sure if you get a sight though, that it either has the 3/8" dovetail mounting that fits the tippmann or flatline, and if not, pick up an adapter. The stock 989 has a 5/8" right beneath the 3/8", from visual inspection, but I gather you're thinking of a flatline.

Try the feel of the gun before you buy it. I've been to the surplus place a half dozen times to fondle- erm, handle the setup before I bought it, as they had a near identical one (different stock) sitting on a shelf. And above all, decide what style of play you want your gun suited for. Are you going primarily woodsball, or primarily speedball? The flatline can be a bit long for speedball- it's quite manageable, but some don't like it. That's where a collapsible stock comes in handy, you can shorten your marker at least somewhat.

Waht I love most about my setup is the realistic feel of it. I'm in the military, and handle the C7A1 usually- It's a Canadian adaptation of the M16, with a 3.4x optical sight on it. The tippmann with flatline and stock si roughly the same length, albeit much lighter, and the slower rate of fire inherent with the stock tippmann is balanced with the flatline's accuracy- great if you like to pick your shots, rather than fill the air with your money. It matches my conservaive style of shooting.

Oh, and for God's sake, get a remote hose. The air tank is no big deal, but it's jsut so much more convenient to keep it on your back... Also, when using a stock, I foudn today that the air tank can push against your side and cause the gun to cant a little bit to the left- with the flatline, titling the marker becomes a problem.
