I keep hearing the same thing. After 8 inches a paintball barrel can't get more accurate, after 12, and sometimes after 14. I hear differen't lengths from differen't people. I just would like to know where this rumor originated abnd what parts of it might be true. This along with the what prople keep telling me about a paintball increasing in spead.

14 inches is the max effeicent length of a barrel.  Beyond that it just takes more air.

Why would it not get more accurate thats the way it worked for muskets and that used round rounds. One of the most accurate muskets the long barrel musket look just like a long pole.

One factor , with Muskets , is this , the weight of the projectile , Vs the reistance it presented going thru the air once fired . Lead is Much heavier than a paintball , and its co-efficient of drag may be the same , at the same diameter projectile , but the most accurate (common) shooting piece back then , was the .36 Cal Squirrel rifle , about half the size of a paintball, and about 4 Times the weight . Much less subject to variations in  "windage and elevation " than what we shoot .

So,, Ya , your right , but thats like comparing a Corvette and a volkswagons 1/4 mile time . soon the "Smoke Poles " went to a Conical bullet , for better sectional stability , which they achieved , and those evolved into the conical  "rounds" that target shooters , hunters and Varmint shooters use today . PS . Rifling was also introduced and widely accepted about the same time in history .

About the speed: With a paintball gun, if the barrel is longer, the ball will have more friction with the barrel and will slow down.

On a Tippmann, this doesn't matter. The gun uses the same amount of air no matter where your velocity screw is at. With a spyder though, or any gun with a regulator or RVA, it does matter and a longer barrel will use more air.
