well here it is, i don't know how many paintjobs i've given it but oh well. I lost my beaver tail to my rear cocking and i decided it was time to do some customizing, so after doing some modifications, and cutting my grip right in half (accident). It sometimes doesn't recock which i will figure out eventually but anyways any comments will be appreciated.

Did you make a new slot for the sear to catch on the bolt?

I think the only prob I see with that is that its easier to get crap in there...

I will tip my hat to you if you can create a cover of some sort to prevent that....

I'm also interested in how this is done. Did you just rotate it, drill a new linkage arm hole and grind a sear catch, or did you just drill a new hole for the cocking knob? If you just drilled a new hole for your cocking knob, that might be your problem with it, since that'd remove so much metal and make it weigh less, throwing off the balance and stuff.

I don't know about A.F.I. but I milled out the slot in the top of the two halves. Then I drilled a new hole down through the top of the bolt at 90* to the original hole.

With the amount of material being removed it won't effect the bolt preformance any noticable ammount. And because I have a low pressure bolt in there it mattered even less to me because I already had done some light weighting to my rear bolt.

It really is a simple process, but if you want it to look good, you have to take your time.

thanks for all the comments, and yes i did it like snakeEyes did it, i don't think the not cocking all the way back has to do with teh real bolt, but i'm not quite sure, i want to take it apart and put it all  back together because i kind of rushed it because i wanted to get it done so bad. and yeah i rushed the paintjob too lol, there's a few spots that need to be bondowed, and i'd like to clean up the cocking slot a bit but whatever.

thanks,

A.F.I

Never rush metalwork, you end up with problems, or kicking yourself when you screw something up.

You desperately need to clean that up or something. Dont get me wrong, its cool that you did it, i would have just taken the time to clean it up and make it look nice before i posted a pic of it.

i would think about making a right side cocking lever for my gun but then again i guese that would mean there is a bigger chance of it getting hit and paint getting in it

If you're allowed to play with mapp gas, I can tell you a better way. My M98 only has a thin slot less than .125" wide on the top for the cocking knob. I used a dremel router table to cut the slot on each side of the receiver (you guys might want to try that instead of free handing it). I then brazed a thin piece of hardened steel to the bolt linkage and made a removable knob to mount on it. I'll post pics here when I have a chance. If you use the bolt linkage, you don't have to drill the hammer, you only have to remove a tiny amount of aluminum and you do not completely open up your recievers to dirt.
