Ive been working on this thing for a few months. Im so sick of everyone
thinking the Carbine is a slow newbie gun, and other people complaining
that it doesnt have uber upgrades like the ebolt or RT.
Think again. First official test run of the Carbine Overdrive system.
Its pretty much prototype, but it certainly does work. No gripframe
stuff yet (need some parts and tools), but the little Clippard valve to
test it with works good.
According to my audio, i was ripping 10bps with the little pushbutton valve with my thumb. Eat that, naysayers.
Video here: http://www.paintballchat.net/overdrive_benchtest.avi - http://www.paintballchat.net/overdrive_benchtest.avi
The video is DivX encoded, so if you dont see any video, go to http://www.divx.com - http://www.divx.com and get the free codec.
Entirely pneumatic. Batteries are for suckers.

DANG looks like it be cool you really ota hook up with tompson shooter
to put something like that into his milsims that be awsome.
Might be a good idea to send a email or something of that sort to
Tippmann. Maybe they'l buy it like the did with the 98c
Ebolt. Hopefully something like this will shine some more light
on the semi forgoton tippy.
Thinking about it that be perfect for a reincarnated tippmann F/A .
But my Carbine is fast enough with just a lighter trigger any faster and i wont beable to afford to fed it .

No, the final version will have a custom made tiny valve on a bracket inside the frame. It will mount on the freed up sear pins.
As for how much, no idea. Nothing promised at all on ever seeing it for sale until after the 12th.

Its not difficult, its the same principle as the ebolt. Replace the
rear bolt with a ram. Except electronics suck, so i left those off.

you will have issues with velocity...
there is no dwell setting... so it is kinda like a cocker, you can short stroke.
if you pull fully the first time, and pull quicker the second, it will send air to the ram before it is fully returned, and you will have less force to hit the valve again so you might have velocity issues...
get a chrono... i wanna see!

after viewing the trigger valve which I helped design and troubleshoot.
You would have close to .5mm pull, and thats if the valve where at the bottom of the trigger.

WHOA!!! thats incredible!!! now i am most certainly glad i chose a Pro/Carbine over a 98c
i have a few questions though,
1. Are you going to rework all this:

so
that it can go on the P/C vertical adapter? (in otherwords, are you going to
have an ASA version when you are complete with the kit?)
2. how much is that beast going to cost!?!?
3. will it pretty much be a drop-in kit for when you are selling them?
4. are you going to make them available in different colors, or even just black?
5. and finally, unrelated to the Overdrive Kit, but for your carbine
Safety-Stop, does that come with o-rings for it and such? or is it just
the safety stop?

This is all IF it goes into production.
1: Thats the setup there, it would come with a nickel plated m/f/f T
fitting, and a nickel plated 90 degree fitting. Of course it could be
set up any way you wanted, if you have a 2-hole ASA you could easily
put the LPR on that instead.
2: Again if it goes into production, probly around $120, around the price of the ebolt.
3: Yes, 100% drop-in.
4: I dont have any equipment to do anodizing. I could always order a different color LPR for someone i guess
5: just the safety
Anyway im in desperate need of a chrono to test this over. Im 90%
certain shoot-down shouldnt be an issue. This thing resets faster then
a 98 ebolt, probably just as fast as the rear bolt when its stock, and
how often is the rear bolt not there when you pull the trigger.
I was running it off a 12 gram, thats why it sounded funny. I dont have any air.

To my knowledge your going to have MAJOR velocity fluctuations.
You have a pneumatic forward, spring return ram. Same as a E-Bolt for a 98. You eliminated the electronicts (board, solenoid, trigger switch...) and replaced it with that slider switch that opens up the air to the ram when pushed.
The dwell on electropneumatic guns is controlled in Milliseconds. For for instance when my dwell is 7, thats .007 seconds. If I change my dwell to 8, .008 seconds, my velocity can jump 30 feet per second. Now with that slider switch hooked up to your trigger, unless you can controll how long you pull the trigger in milliseconds (impossible) your velocity will be all over the place.
To counter act that you could lower your ram pressure considerably (say 30PSI versus a baseline of 80PSI). But with a lower ram pressure you may not even be able to get it above 150FPS.
Short stroking will also be possible if (but hard since you say the trigger is going to be so short).
So until I see it work I say it's not going to work! But there is only one way to find out. Good luck with the rest of the project Enos.

Negative houston. Thats the one major thing i was worried about. What
your saying is that holding down the trigger would cause the ram to
hold the main valve open. I had a design for a striker worked out that
would eliminate that problem, but it turned out i dont need it.
The intertia of the striker kicks the valve open, but the force of the
gas inside the main valve pushes it closed very neatly. Gotta love
poppet valves. If you hold the trigger valve open, it fires, and then
just sits there in the forward position until you let off.
I had the reg turned almost as far down as it could, and it sounded
like it was shooting a bit hard, so at this point i dont think theres
any worries.
Good to see you around NN
-------------
|
Posted By: Natural Newbie
Date Posted: 02 October 2004 at 1:04pm
Hmm, yea I was thinking it might have the poppet effect. However since it's not a spring constant that is pushing the hammer forward, it's "how long the trigger is pulled". There might still be a possibility for velocity fluctuations. Well, the tell tale will be the chrono when it is finished!

Yeah, at worst it would undershoot, better then overshooting in my book.
Yeah, i need a bleeding chrono to test the thing. Something else i dont have :/
Its fast, it resets very fast and kicks very fast so im hoping with a very short trigger valve it will work just fine.
