I havent played much since the game was all pump.  PGP, Phantom, Worr Sniper were the choices but I was too young to afford a gun.  15 years later- I'm getting back in and trying to equip myself.

Read some reviews and am deadset on the A-5.  Great look, seems very upgradable...

Basically---- what are the upgrades I should get?  I want to travel light and will be a woodsball player exclusively.

Barrel?  Sight?  Hopper?  What are the things an amateur wouldnt think to get...  no flatlines please, looks too ugly.

You won't need a hopper for the A-5.... It has the cyclone feed. (It comes with a hopper anyway.)

Look into getting a new barrel. No matter what, this should be your first upgrade. (The stock Tippmann barrels have horrid accuracy.)

After that, think about an expansion chamber or a regulator, to help with the consistancy of your CO2. Either that, or get a nitro tank. (You don't need a low pressure kit to run nitro on a tippmann.)

The rest is up to you.

Well if your dead set on the a5 i say get it.  Just play with it stock for awhile till you find the areas you think it eed improvement.

Most everybody upgrades the barrel as a first some good ones for a fair price are

Smartparts Teardrop/Progressive (Had one on my old 98c): Great economy barrels very light and quiet with good accuracy.

J&J Ceramic (Have one on my Carbine same threads as your A5) The BEST barrel under $40.  Quiet, Great accuracy (Better than Above Mentioned barrels) , and  It self cleans if you have a ball brake in your barrel.

Lapco Bigshot (Yet to use one but have read MANY reviews befor i bought the J&J)  Best accuracy of the bunch but very loud as there is very little porting makeing these barrels aslo very efficiant but also the most $$ of the bunch.

After that id look at HPA tank instead of Co2 for efficiancy reasons and then maybe a firepower upgrade E-Grip or RT.

Agin though that is just what i personally would like not whats best.  You trully have to play awhile befor you can decide what you need or want out of your marker.

If you wanna keep the trigger purely mechanical for a while , look into the Modifications at model89.net such as polishing and trigger mods , these are great improvements to performance , for just a little bit of time and coin . I had a 98C that was fully modded out , and it was Fearsome .

Welcome back to paintball , and welcome to the forum !

I can't believe no one mentioned the Response Trigger. I too come from the land of pumps, and have recently returned to the "expensive hobby" the RT was the thing that sold me on the A-5 to go from 1bps pump (KP-3) to a paint slinging machine-gun-firehose brought me back into the game !

Oh yeah,. washer then "o" ring!  welcome to the family.

And don't disregar the flatty soely on looks,. find someone on the field who has one and ask if you can shoot it! it's not for everyone,. but is sure is for me!!

Thanks all for the feedback so far...  huge help.  Really enjoy the suggested 'packages'.  dont envision being able to embrace full auto so am thinking ill steer clear of the rt, but you never know.  barrel seems like a tough choice............   j&j..  lapco...
