much lees than that I'm pretty sure. However you can get systems with check valves and such that pressureize  a cylinder to 800 psi, then it pumps the cylinder into the tank increasing the prssure.

The answer is no.
A shop air compressor cannot compress to 3000psi. So no your friends dads air compressor cannot fill your paintball HPA tank.
For a compressor that will fill a paintball HPA tank you would need something like a scuba compressor or a compressor like the one at your local fire department.
To verify this...go to your local fire department and ask to see the compressor. If the compressor you see there looks like the one in your friends dads garage....then you are in luck.
If that is the case...PM me and I will hook you up with information on how to make it work with your paintball cylinder.

Most home shop air compressors are a single stage compressor capable of about 120-140 PSI.  Most mechanics and body shops use two stage compressor capable of about 180-220 PSI.  Either way, like Ken Majors said, your buddy's dad's compressor will not work.

You need a compressor capable of (preferrably) 4500-5000 PSI.  That will run you about 5,000$.  You need an HPA fill station to fll your tanks though.

like glass said a compresser that will fill to about 4500 will cost you a nice $5,000

KC,  I run a has a volunteer FF, I then got into paintball. Talking about great luck. I use the 4 stage 25,000 dollar compresser in my house to fill my tank. The compressor your buds dad is going to buy won't touch the compression ratio needed to fill your tank.

tried it, you can get a few shots out of the fill but not even enough to last you one game.
