Very true. I would say that the A5 is the best overall but it depends on your style and budget as Panda Man said.

Not necessarily. My friend paid like $1300 for his timmy and he always has some sort of problem with it. I paid about $400 total for my 98c with all the upgrades and it works all the time. Both of us take very good care of our guns. What causes the difference in reliability is how the stuff is made. Intimidators are complicated electros and 98's are simple mechanical guns so obviously it's easier for Bob Long to make a defective gun but before you sympathize with them, remember the price of a timmy. For $1000+ your gun should be top of the line and super reliable. The manufacturing costs for them can't be as astronomically high as their prices suggest, people are just willing to pay so much because it's electronic and they assume it will cost big money. Since people don't question the pricing, these companies continue to charge absurd amounts for their products. In my opinion, that's not getting what you paid for, that's called getting ripped off. That's why I suggest looking at price after you look at performance. If you shop only by price then you either won't be happy with what you get or you'll be happy with the gun but you could've paid much less for something just as good. Sometimes you get lucky and the more expensive option is the best but that's definitely not always how it works. And this applies to everything, not just paintball.

I believe that Tippmann Markers are the best markers, period. I've played with AutoMags, AutoCockers, once with the over rated Angel, and i still prefer my ol' Pro/Carbine over them all. I love all Tippmann markers, and dream of one day owning... and moding a SMG, but thats for another post. But, i have to say i would take a Carbine over an A-5, but i dont like shooting lots of paint... so that probably changes my answer and opinion a lot!    BUT, whatever you want to do in paintball, a Tippmann Marker can do it! (Yes, i am campaigning for Tippmann in their own Forums... it's a start...)
