I loved that movie! Go see it with a bunch of stupid friends tho so incase you hate it and want to leave, you can laugh at you friends who are laughing at something so stupid. Yeah, the point of the movie is that it doesn't really have a point, at least as far as plot is concerned. It's a movie about characters. Much in the same way that "Clerks" is. The movie isn't about anything except the interaction of these really strange individuals. There isn't even really any character development really, because that kind of stuff, really when you think about it, is pretty fake. Most people's personalities don't change over the course of a few days or weeks or whatever the time frame is for most movies. Instead of relying on entertaining situations, Napoleon Dynamite relies on entertaining characters. They don't change, they just are. In fact, if there *is* a plot to the movie, it would be that here you have this total dork of a person, very socially inept, who just accepts himself for who he is and doesn't feel the need to change for anyone other than himself. People laugh at him, people beat him up... But even when he saves the day (sorry if that counts as a spoiler), it makes no difference to him, because he wasn't doing it to impress anyone. |

I saw that movie... I don't really remember anything from the movie other than the fact that I was laughing just about the whole time... That might not have been because of the movie though...

I didn't say it was as good as Clerks. I said it was a similar type of movie insofar as not revolving around much of a plot. The "plot" is the character interactions. Yeah, Clerks is about Dante hooking up with his exgirlfriend. Okay, about as much as Napoleon Dynomite is about Pedro running for president and the relationship between Napoloen and Deb. They both have plots (you can't have a watchable movie without one), but they are PAPER thin, and mostly just the framework for the important stuff (characterizations). But again, I didn't make any kind of statement comparing them in how good they were, or whatever. Just that the style of the movies are similar because of how they focus on the humor of the characters, and how it's the conversations and one-liners that really make the movie. As for comparing such a piece of crud to Clerks... Well, most people said the same thing about Clerks when it came out. That it was stupid, had no point, that the characters were unbelievable, poorly acted and directed... Like most cult classics, Clerks was NOT a hit when it came out, except in small circles. It took time for its popularity to build, through word of mouth and all that. And for the record, Clerks is brilliant. But Clerks also has some of the worst acting I have ever seen in my LIFE. "Alright, who's leading this mob?" sounds like Veronica is reading her line off of a cereal box. |
