Sometime last week I came home from school for lunch and flipped on the radio, and the DJ put on a remake of John Lennon's Imagine, done by A Perfect Circle. I listened to it and didn't much care for it, but it's one of those songs that get stuck in the back of your brain, and come back a week later, so I found myself searching for it, pretty easy to find though. Here is a link to the video for APC with about 30 seconds of interview you can skip over at the beginning http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/virg001/a_perfect_circle/video/emotive/imagine_w_interview_hi.asx?siteid=fanscape - Imagine - A Perfect Circle

I have actually never heard the version by John Lennon, so I'm seeing what people think of which is better, I havn't heard many good things in comparison, but I like the song, and the video goes along well with it.

Well, you can click that link and hear the APC version of you like, but it would be biased if you havn't heard both, as I havn't, but either way, you can hear one of them.

Waiting for it to load, but I don't see how you could possibly top John Lennon's version. I've yet to hear anyone come close (Neil Young's version blew spectacularly). As to those of you who've never heard John Lennon's version you really need to expand the types of music you listen to.

Well, it's probably because by the time John Lennon died, it was still another 9 years till I was born... Apparently APC's version is alot more "creepy" and slower than Lennon's who's version is more optimistic, from what I've read so far.

How can you not have heard Lennons version!

See if you can dig up John Lennon's version. The assesment that the APC version is slower and less optomistic sounding is correct, it's also, IMO, less acousitically interesting to listen to mainly due to the piano work and more of a monotone singing style. However, considering how much time has passed since the origional version was realeased, and APC's views that we haven't learned from the mistakes made in the time of that generation a slightly less enthusiastic tone seems to be warrented and no less valid to me. So in short, I think the cover is decent and doesn't detract from the origional, but it's different and in my opinion just not as good. Also the origional version was recently recognized as have been aired over 5 million times since it came out, so it's not like they stopped playing it soon after his death.

I'm actually getting it transferred to me from my friend as we speak, cause I can't use any music downloading programs due to my firewall on my router. I'm also sure that I've heard the song somewhere but just can't remember as what happens with most songs that I never learn the name to.

Yeah... Just listend to the Lennon version... Very very different, but the APC one is more my style, and I proabably like it because it's the first one I listened to. Both are good, but I like the downbeat style of the APC version more.

I used to love APC and have the utmost respect for them...now they can go crawl in a ditch and die for all I care...Nothing more than just a bunch of rockstars jumping on the anti-america band wagon

Dude, watch the video again, it isn't anti-american, infact, it never says or shows anything saying they do or don't support anything, but with the lyrics such as "Imagine there's no countries, It isn't hard to do, Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too..." they show scenes of war, of dictators, violence and death. This video is pointed at the human race as a whole, not at America. As he says in the interview at the beginning "That's the beauty of it, this is footage that... it's done on regular T.V." The reason they took images of the Iraq war is because it's also very recent. It all ties together with the song if you try to grasp the link between the two. I think the best thing they put in the video, was run all those little headlines and sports scores on the bottom of the screen, like in most news programs, to show that even though it's going on, we don't really see it as anything big, as long as it's not affecting us directly.
