Subject: Fancy NEW Tippmann M98C body design
Date Posted: 15 October 2004 at 11:15pm

So yeah, I got bored tonight and fired up SOLIDWorks and started redesigning a Tippmann Model 98 Custom body. Keep in mind that this is just a rough design. But it does a darn good job showing just how I want to reposition the reg and grip frame. We did a bit of a mock-up on one of these already and the Tippmann actually ended up being as compact as the new Shockers!!!

But yeah, once I get the time I am going to finish up the detail work, write the CNC code for it and fire one out for testing. And of course this design right now is for an E-bolted gun. Later after validating that this works, I will put in the extra work to design a fully mechanical body.

very nice work, but i have to say that the body extends too far off the back of the grip, it reminds me of the old shoe box shockers, i owuld chop some material off of the back...great job tho bro

Heh, 3D renders are for sissies who can't hack it out with CAD and machine code. Just kidding.

What program uses .3ds extensions, because I have this long list of exportable files, but I am not seeing .3ds?

Ummmmmm, you can't chop that material off the back end. That's where the back bolt/ram assembly will go.

Plus I like it that way, it will be like a nice meaty snatch grip.

can solid works export in .3ds i know inventor cant, thats why i asked, cause CADs render software sucks bad...

and do you know how to work with workplanes? cause i cant ever get then working correctly

Workplanes? What problem are you having with them. In the three CAD programs that I have leanred they were all defined by just either clicking on one or defining it by selecting it from a menu.

How do you plan to implement the sear? I'd imagine changing the position that much would have an effect on trigger pull, unless you're planning on making it electro.

My initial plan is to put an E-Bolt in there. I can mill out channels for the air lines, so they run through the gun nice and clean. That is all dependent on me picking up the E-Bolt that I have been looking for.

I also have a few ideas of how to make a sear tripper work in there. I will have to sit down and work through some push rod setups though.

Thanks for all the responses. If I get bored again I will mock up a barrel, reg and whatever else I feel needs to go on there and take a few pictures.

Ummmm, how 'bout I hate OTB grips and 15* ASAs are stupid. That is the exact crap I am trying to stay away from. I want a very clean and classic look here.

Why would I contact someone outside when I can do all this work myself? Plus, I was not very impressed with the 98C that I saw from them. Maybe they do cutting edge work, but I am not sure of that from what I have seen.

I would prefer to do this work myself, so I can truely call it my own.

But yeah, the back of the body needs to be that long to accomidate the back internals like the rear bolt, endcap/airvalve, etc.

It's surprising just how similar Tippmanns and new Shockers are in body design. They both use inline valve bolt assemblies, which lead to the long tubular bodys. Plus I think the new Shockers have a real crisp look to them, so i wanted to really confuse people when I show up to a field with this thing.

if your talking to me, i had that design for a good 3 years now, and have only recently seen yours

my design not close at all acctually, the marker isnt even a 98 anymore, much smaller, i guess the only resemblence would be the frames

Crap, my plan is coming together faster than I planned. I just found some guy to sell me a GTA E-Bolt that is missing the battery case and the on/off switch for $70 shipped. I am going to have to get on milling one of these things out real quick.

I am getting excited now.

So I have actually started separating the body into halves and designing the air line routes and figuring where I am going to run the valve pressure line. It would be nice to keep it inside the body, but I do not know if that is possible with the grip where it is and where the trigger has to go. Actually, I don't think it's possible at all, but I have no problem running a nice clean external brass or macroline from the reg port to the valve.

Way ahead of you Evil. I may even design in a battery tray because I don't think there will be enough room in the grip for the electronics as well as the battery. Maybe something small hanging off the back that I will design grips into for a fancier snatch grip.

Originally posted by The Guy The Guy wrote:

That ASA is going to be threaded for male regs and then have a macroline fitting coming out the side which will run back to the valve, and into the gun. It's all on the otherside, where you can't see it.

Here's the photo of the ASA ports highlighted in red.

And who cares if it looks like Mini-mag? I don't even know what a Mini-mag looks like. I just started playing around with Tippmann geometry and this is what came out. I like it.
