What musician do you think you are influenced most from? Or who do you think you try to mimic when you play your instrument? I think i see myself as John Paul Jones/ John Entwistle type bassist. It can be whoever you want, just be truthful.

^ i mean truthfully. It's going a little too far to say you are Neil Peart if you can't play drums.

You said, and i quote.

"What musician do you think you are influenced most from?"

Not what musician do we compare ourselves to.

Besides he is the first person that came to mind.

Well, after listening to John Coltrane for so long, it almost makes me want to take up learning the sax.

Louis Armstrong.  I've been playing trumpet professionaly for 2 years now.  (I'm only 14 too!)  I'm in a band called "Jazz Players Anonomous".  For anyone who lives in Sussex county NJ, we play at Kroughs in Sparta the last sunday of every month...

Interesting you mention John Entwistle (May God rest his soul), as he was one of my influences when beginning to play bass.

Entwistle, Geezer Butler, Gene Simmons (whose early work is VASTLY underrated), Glen Hughes, Tony Levin and Rudy Sarzo were my guides into the world of the bass guitar.

Later, I saw guys like Les Claypool and Billy Sheehan and realized how inept I was in the sheme of things.

Not musically inclined myself (I don't play any instruments, no time!), but a big life influence for me has been Jimmy Buffett. I cruise along always searching for song, not a lawyer, a thief, or a banker.

Probably Malcom Young. Because I suck at solos and the such, but I can lay down a nice beat and I'm good at strumming.

Milly and Vanilly... More of Milly, not so much Vanilly.

But seriously, I play bass and my top influences are Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, and Geddy Lee.

As for other favorites/greats:

-John Coltrane (sax)
-Steve Vai (guitar)
-Joe Satriani (guitar)
-John Petrucci (guitar)
-Jordan Rudess (keyboard)
-Neil Peart (best drummer to ever live)
-Frank Zappa (musical genius)

Wow, awesome list! I have Geddy's bass, and i know Jaco's son, Felix. Jaco was probably the reason i took up bass.
