Had a question for some of the more experienced folks here. Let's say for example, I have my R/T (98C) tweaked for 18 bps, hoppers feeds 13 balls a second. Will that be why I chop paint? If I go and get a hoppers that does 20+ bps will I still chop paint? I guess what I am asking is, what causes a gun to bust the paintballs when shooting? If I do three shot bursts, never chop a ball. But when I let it rip, then i will start busting paintballs. Thanks in advance.

You pretty much answered your own question already. If balls are not feeding into the chamber fast enough and you continue to pull the trigger, then the obvious result is the bolt starts chopping balls and making paint soup in the internals. Getting a faster hopper should fix the problem or you can just not shoot as fast anymore.

well, from what I know I've never gotten more than 15 on my A-5, but i havent messed with it yet.

You will most definetly chop paint if you dont have a fast hopper though, and another thing is, if you have a 98, what the point in shooting 18+ bps?  Youre going to chop paint on that thing because I've read that tippmann's internal's are "capped" if you will, at 16bps.

So if you want to shoot more that 15 safely then you might as well get like, an evo, or a fenix or something...

Thats my two cents.

That is what i was wondering. If i get a hopper that does, for example, 30 balls a second, and I have my 98 tuned to 18 bps will it chop? And if it does, is it because of the hopper or the gun?

This is just hypothetical questions, I have no idea what my 98 shoots at, but I do chop paint when i let the gun rip, but if i do controlled bursts, i dont chop paint. My hopper is one of the sound activated empire ones (13bps i think).

If it is not the hopper, and it is the gun what are some upgrades that would fix the ball chopping? Lower velocity, some new internals, etc..? I would like to get up to 18 bps with no chopping. Oh yea, this happens on any brand of paintballs, i have pretty much tried them all. Have made sure that barrel is matched to paintball too (have a kit with different barrel sizes).

Jus readjust the RT to catch up wit the hopper, its not that difficult to do.

This is what I did wit my 98c w/RT and I was using a 12v Revy w/xboard....never had a single chop when I fine tuned the RT on my 98c and now I have the Qloader and I dont have to retune the RT since the Qloader can catch up wit the RT regardless how it is tuned.

It won't chop, because the hopper that feeds 30 bps can handle 18.  Now if it was the opposite, like the gun shoots 30 bps, and the hopper only feeds 18 then it would chop becuase the hopper couldn't keep up with the gun itself. Get it?

you nailed man....hes very true, my imagine shoots 14 bps and my hopper fedds 10....in that case its very choppy and cruddy. buy a evo2 there better and more relaible than halo...trust me.

**Frozen ballz just talked about this.

The question is about a 98C. Read the post and think before you reply. And Yo Yankeefan shut the front door! You make the rest of the Yankee fans look like freakin morons.

*Sorry for the flame, but I had to get that off my chest. Now back to his question. Wich I think has been answered. Good luck with that, hope ya fix your problems.

its the gun. on a 98 when your firing that fast the way the feed neck is designed and the feed hole it makes it really hard for paint to move that fast when you fire the paintball will not fully drop in and the bolt catches it while its half way in the breach and cuts it in half.

So, what is top bps for a 98C? Not in theory but in real operation? I have some folks saying that as fast as hopper can feed the balls, and this post saying that the bolt will cut balls in half if going to fast. I am going to try and play with gun this weekend and get it tweaked to where it wont chop at all. Will let you know what I come up with.
