hey guys...i'm in need of some help for this chemistry lab i'm doing and i have a million other things to do and these two questions are giving me some trouble...i'd appreciate it if someone could give me a little hand

here they are:

1) Prior to its discovery on Earth, helium's existence was first confirmed in the sun. Explain how this was possible.

2) Calculate the amount of energy released from a Hydrogen wavelength of 400.

Thanks in advance for those kind enough to help me out

I don't know either but try google. Good luck

Check this for No.1 http://www.3rd1000.com/elements/helium.htm - http://www.3rd1000.com/elements/helium.htm

My answer would be through the Sun's analysis of absorption lines.

Granted that you've covered that in class or currently learning about it, helium will give a different absoprtion line than that of hydrogen or any other gas existing in the Sun. Certain wavelengths of light will be absorbed by gases and the results will be unique and distinct to every gas, so none will be the same. Therefore, you can tell which gas is present in the Sun.

That's as much as I can give you. Good luck.
