At school today, one of my friend's friends (he is very good with computers) said since i was being annoying so he was going to give me a worm. He said he can do it by typing in my IP something something something then sending the file. Is it possible to send viruses throught the command prompt? Also, if he does, what laws protect me and give me the ability to sue (yes if he does do this and it affects my computer I AM going to sue him. I know it is illegal, but what could i do if he does this? |

ah, a point, but, my parents sure as heck can (its kinda a shared comp, even though it is in my room) also, i could probably get his ISP to drop him... AND my parents could sure his parents becuse there is a thing called an acceptable use policy so basically if he breaks this policy, his paretns are held responsible. |

What kind of virus? Why would you sue anyways? You could fix
it yourself. Now im not to much of a computer genius, BUT, i know thers programs that get viruses off. -------------

im not sure which one, but... usually (from what i know) the worst thing a virus can do is take all your documents (like personal info) and then crash your comp, but you can alwyas re-install the OS and you loose all your stuff, i have just backed up all my important stuff. |

yup, i have 6 dics so far of backups (i have 2 burners going(one on my comp and one on my other comp(useing a network with shared files))) i will have about 13 total i should have had some DVDs with me, all on 1 disc |

well, if you have the internet coming straight from the wall to your computer, yea he could prolly do it. if its going through a hardware firewall or gateway of some sort, it would be very difficult. I wouldnt sleep on it. -------------  |

its comming through a wireless router, a lynksis does that count?

Linksys has a built in firewall, not saying it will make it impossible
though. He could easily hack your computer if he knew what he was
doing just by talking to you on aim, that is if he knew how to get your
IP address out of it. Hes probably full of crap though, so i
wouldnt be too worried.

Well, tell your friend he's a damn moron. The problem with that is you can't just type in an IP and drop a virus. You have to activate it, meaning you have to either download or start something.
I say go along with it and mutter choice words under your breath while he's saying stuff. ------------- X |
