should it be higher than 300fps it should be like 350 or 375 or somethings cuz when u get hit by a 300fps paintball u barely feel it,compared to something like 350.

No it shouldn't. It would be too dangerous.

No, you shouldn't raise the velocity past 300 fps. If you do, you have a higher risk of cracking your lense. That's one of the reasons why most fields have their standard velocity at about 280 fps or maybe a little higher.

350 shoots through clothes if you are close enough. It hurts.

If you had ever been shot with a paintball doing 350 you would not even suggest it. We would come home with some of the nastiest 6 inch around bruises.

Now that I use a chronograph, and had everyone turn it down, we come home with little red welts that heal away in a couple days.

I say no no no no no , not only no but hell no.

Dude, 300 hurts enough at 2 feet when you get bunkered.

Over 300 isnt safe.  Also, over 300, your accuracy will decrease. If it is at 350, your accuracy will be pretty bad.

Thats a bad idea. and i rarely have any problems noticing hits at anywhere from 260-300.

This was 250 at point blank.

EDIT: When I say point blank I mean my arm was about a foot away from the tip of the guys barrel.

The limit of 300 fps isn't to do with pain, its to do with physical capabilities. Budd Orr figured out the max speed of 300 fps after hearing of many women and children having their knuckles broken by people shooting "hot." Essentially, if you turn up the velocity you run the risk of breaking hands, as well as masks, which are also rated for 300 fps.
That's it in a nutshell.

In the middle of the circle where the skin is a little bit darker, all the skin died and fell off and I had a big ol' hole in my arm.

Not the best idea.  Also, does anyone know why point blank shots don't hurt as much as 15 foot away shots?

I was shot from less than 10 ft away by my friend once when we were trying to show some newbies how much it "doesn't hurt" to get shot. yea, definately shoulda chrono'd his gun first. needless to say, I was screaming like a little girl, and he was busy chrono'ing his gun just to find out that he was shooting a steady 380 fps.

it hurts less sometimes to get shot point blank because it numbs the flesh rather than just like slapping it with a wet towel. iono why but it does...

If you are right on the barrel, you can slow the ball down a bit by the air compressing.

at about 350, you are no longer shooting paintballs, but paint chunks.

since Kinetic energy varies with the square of velocity...a little math shows that a paintball going 350 fps has 1.361 times the energy of a paintball going 300 fps.   that's close to one and a half times the hurt. And it will translate into busted clothing, busted hoppers, pods, and lenses...
NOT SAFE

playing with guns set at a lower velocity would improve your game more since you have to move up alot to hit anyone.
